Summary

The Mount Vernon School is in search of a Security officer who will be responsible for ensuring the safety and protection of The Mount Vernon School students, employees, visitors, and associated property. This individual is tasked with patrolling the campus, responding to safety and security threats, and establishing a security presence when needed. Hours of the position will be from 1:30p.m.

-10:00p.m.

Role & Responsibilities

• Watch and patrol grounds and buildings, on foot and in vehicle, to protect against damage, theft, or harm caused by intruders
• Ensure building and grounds security
• Assist with any and all carpools
• Regulate vehicle traffic, place traffic cones, and maintain orderly flow and control
• Ensure pedestrian safety at school crossways
• Complete all jobs in a timely manner
• Be aware of noise in and around classrooms and building
• Examine doors, windows, and gates to determine they are secure
• Respond quickly and effectively to security violations and reports of security violations
• Respond quickly to emergency situations by safely directing people and coordinating with the emergency response team
• Conduct and/or assist in security investigations
• Investigate and report on-campus incidents
• Complete a minimum of three security tours per shift
• Maintain attendance and punctuality expectations
• Be aware of vendors schedules and escort vendors/contractors when necessary

• Provide a visible presence at all special events and functions
• Check logbook/calendar for events daily
• Secure doors in school buildings and gates as necessary
• Provide traffic direction and parking control

• Check the condition of the vehicle prior to driving
• Report mechanical problems or damage to Director
• Fuel and maintain vehicles as needed

• Minimum of two years of security experience
• Experience with emergency response procedures and protocols
• Technical proficiency in utilizing online platforms, Google apps such as email, calendar, and docs
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with community stakeholders of all ages
• Able to work overtime for after-hour events, when necessary
• Possess the cognitive skills necessary to perform job duties
