Research Security Specialist – Senior Professional
Georgia Tech invites a seasoned Research Security Specialist to implement, maintain, and continually advance security protocols, systems, and procedures that protect research technology assets and sensitive data.
Job Summary
Maintain and enforce security policies, conduct assessments, monitor incidents, collaborate with stakeholders, deliver training, and ensure compliance with research technology environments.
Responsibilities- Develop, implement, and enforce security policies, procedures, and protocols to protect research data and facilities.
- Collaborate with security, IT, and research teams to address security concerns, incidents, and breaches.
- Conduct security assessments, vulnerability scans, and risk analyses to identify potential threats.
- Monitor security systems, access controls, and surveillance technologies to detect and respond to incidents.
- Provide security training, awareness, and guidance to research staff and stakeholders on best practices.
- Assist in security compliance checks, audits, and regulatory assessments to ensure adherence to standards.
- Participate in incident response, investigations, and remediation efforts to mitigate risks.
- Maintain security documentation, incident reports, and logs to track activities and compliance.
- Stay updated on security trends, threats, and emerging technologies to enhance defenses.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience: Six or more years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Government security clearance (Security Clearance Required).
- Experience in Special Access Program (SAP) Personnel Security (PERSEC).
- Experience with JADE.
- Experience with DISS.
- Familiarity with the SAP nomination process.
- Special Access Program Personnel Security Official (SPO) Training.
Advanced knowledge of security principles and practices, ability to manage complex assignments, and adherence to USG Core Values and ethics.
Other InformationThis position does not have supervisory responsibilities, financial responsibilities, purchasing card usage, driving, or travel requirements. Security clearance is required. It is located in Atlanta, GA and will not require a P‑Card.
Salary range: $69,941.00 – $ (grade R07). Must be a U.S. citizen.
