Salary Range: $51,025.56 – $68,132.47

General Description and Classification StandardsThe purpose of this job is to inspect construction job sites and approved plans to ensure compliance with regulatory codes, ordinances, and laws. Duties include, but are not limited to: reading fire sprinkler plans and specifications; inspecting installation at job sites to ensure compliance with plans, codes, ordinances, and laws; assisting fire sprinkler installers with NFPA code conformance; answering inquiries regarding construction materials and procedures;
explaining departmental procedures; and processing paperwork.
- Perform skilled inspection work in the enforcement of municipal ordinances and regulations governing the installation and modification of water‑based fire protection systems, foam water systems, FM 200 systems, and Halon systems.
- Review and ensure fire sprinkler, fire pump, backflow preventer, and standpipe installations comply with approved plans, specifications, and City of Atlanta codes and regulations, including NFPA 13, 13R, 13D, 14, 20, 25, and 72.
- Investigate suspected unlicensed installers or unpermitted work.
- Assist high‑volume fire sprinkler installers and customers in conformity with NFPA 13, 13R, and 13D installation requirements and regulations.
- Confers with supervisor, inspectors, contractors, the general public, and others regarding code interpretations and related issues.
- Provide code interpretation or assistance to contractors, engineers, the general public, and others as needed at job sites.
- Study, interpret, and ensure fire sprinkler/suppression systems adhere to designs.
- Maintain accurate records and inspection documentation of assigned work.
- Provide clear, written, and oral communication with supervisors, staff, contractors, and the public.
- Demonstrate knowledge of hydraulics, hazard evaluation, detection systems, fire sprinkler control valve assembly, standpipe design, wet pipe systems, deluge systems, dry pipe systems, pre‑action systems, foam water systems, FM 200 systems, Halon systems, EFSR systems, and NFPA 13, 13R, 13D requirements.
- Apply independent judgment and plan, organize, and prioritize daily assignments and work activities.
- Lift a minimum of 40 pounds without assistance and stand, climb stairs, or ladders for extended periods as required.
- Work under a minimum degree of stress related to duties that require constant attention to detail and tight deadlines.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in plan review and 2 years of inspection experience in fire sprinkler systems.
- Must be able to obtain NICET II Certification within 8 months of employment.
- Valid Georgia Driver’s License.
- Pass a pre‑employment security, drug, and background check.
- NICET II Certification.
