Installation Technician IV

What You’ll Do

The Installation Technician IV will perform installation tasks for AVI‑SPL contracted projects including cable pulls, cable terminations, system equipment and components, rack fabrication and wiring, layout for equipment, and metal fabrication. The technician will lead and direct installation crews on large and complex projects and engage in system testing by coordinating and reporting progress to the Project Manager to ensure projects meet time, scope, budget, quality, safety, and customer satisfaction requirements.

Day‑to‑Day

Responsibilities
  • Perform installation tasks as directed by the project scope
  • Provide leadership on site and mentor all site technicians, ensuring quality of work
  • Read and interpret electronic schematics and architectural blueprints
  • Use hand and power tools to solder and crimp connectors for various installation system tasks
  • Test point‑to‑point cabling, system functionality, and control/DSP code; perform field load as necessary
  • Support an engineer or programmer with minor programming changes
  • Track, manage and secure all equipment and tools on the jobsite
  • Work with office staff to initiate return material authorizations as needed
  • Support the Project Manager with site supervision, daily jobsite status communication, and required documentation
  • Act as customer liaison on site according to project scope; route change requests to the Project Manager
  • Coordinate with other trades on site
  • Perform client training as needed
  • Travel to various job sites
  • Adapt to changing priorities and objectives as needed

Must‑Haves
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to present technical information to technical and non‑technical audiences
  • Strong client‑facing skills; build and maintain client relationships
  • High level of professionalism, strong work ethic, commitment to high‑quality work
  • Advanced understanding of audio‑visual systems (projectors, screens, speakers, microphones, video conferencing, digital signage, control systems)
  • Advanced proficiency installing, terminating, and troubleshooting low‑voltage cabling (HDMI, CAT5e/6, fiber optic) and conduit runs, cable trays, wiring methods
  • Expert understanding of network infrastructure integration with AV systems (IP‑based, streaming, cloud)
  • Expert troubleshooting skills for complex technical issues; analyze logs, network traffic, use diagnostic tools
  • Ability to use hand and power tools safely and efficiently
  • Independent work; meet deadlines
  • Proven ability to lead and manage site teams on large‑scale projects and allocate resources to meet timelines
  • Knowledge of emerging AV technologies
  • Advanced knowledge and use of test equipment for required applications
  • Advanced knowledge of industry installation safety codes and standards
  • Routinely advises Project Manager on installation concepts affecting planning, scheduling, budgeting
  • Routinely assists Project Engineer with complex technical solutions
  • Routinely assists Programmer with code loading and testing on site
  • Valid AVIXA CTS‑I General Certification (CTS‑I required); additional manufacturer training as required
  • Valid driver’s license and motor‑vehicle record meeting AVI‑SPL driving privileges standards
  • Minimum 6‑8 years in audiovisual, electronics or related installation experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent
Nice‑To‑Haves
  • Formal education in Audio Visual, Electronics or related field
  • CDL preferred
  • OSHA 30‑Hour Construction Course
  • Confirmed Project Site Lead experience
  • Ability to obtain formal approved clearances (government or system specific) if required
