Job DescriptionA Field Technician is responsible for assisting in start‑up, commissioning, integration, emergency service, and troubleshooting of Vertiv electrical switch gear 480
VAC/15
KVAC, including PDU, ATS, PDC, circuit breakers, protective relays, PLC, meters and other automated devices as well as mechanical repairs and modifications under the direction of senior technicians. The FT is required to establish, promote, and maintain excellent rapport with all customers, co‑workers, sales representatives and others as appropriate, and to maintain continuous communication with CRC, Supervisor, and direct manager.
- Rely on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
- Perform a variety of work related tasks.
- Capable of working under general supervision but to a large degree independently.
- Maintain certifications per Job Progression table.
- Render on‑site and phone assistance to customers.
- Communicate with National Technical Support on equipment issues.
- Perform work related tasks according to company guidelines for scheduled maintenance.
- Implement Field Change Notices according to published guidelines.
- Keep current on Safety Bulletins, Safety Field Change Notices, Field Change Notices, and Service Tips.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- ASMET certification.
- Valid driver’s license is required.
- Mechanical & Electrical aptitude.
- 2+ years of hands‑on electronic experience or field services.
- Training in electrical theory and technologies.
- Familiarity with electrical/electronic test equipment and fundamentals.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical line diagrams and blueprints.
- Ability to regularly lift at least 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Standard computer skills including MS Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Foster a Customer‑First Mindset.
- ASEET certification (preferred).
- Medium lifting (30‑45 lbs).
- Heavy lifting (over 50 lbs).
- Frequent standing, kneeling/crawling, stooping, bending, twisting.
- Frequent climbing (stairs, ladders).
- Frequent driving (car, van, truck).
- Extremes: cold (below 32°F) and heat (above 100°F).
- Noise level: medium/high requiring shouting to be heard.
- Working around moving machinery (fork‑lifts, tractors).
- Protective equipment required (earplugs, gloves, eyewear, respirator, mask, etc.).
- Work outdoors (no effective protection from weather).
- 80% travel.
- Job assignments typically range from 4 weeks to 12+ months.
- Field rotation: 3 consecutive weeks on the customer site followed by 1 week in a home office for a minimum of 40 billable hours and administrative duties.
Due to the safety‑sensitive aspect of the role, candidates must successfully pass a drug test prior to employment. Candidates are also required to complete and pass a pre‑employment background check.
