Overview &Key Responsibilities
The Senior Software Development Engineer is responsible for development, operations, and enhancements being built for Delta’s cloud journey. As a member of the Crew IT Team, the engineer will be involved with engineering, support, and thought leadership as it relates to the platform, automation, and other related activities. This position requires working closely with internal team members, Product Owners, and other supporting IT groups.
YourResponsibilities In This Role
- Implement automated, containerized cloud application platform solutions, focusing on cloud-ready distributed application architectures, migrating workloads to containers, containerized development workflows, and integrating container platforms with automated CI/CD pipelines
- Serve as a subject matter expert with the ability to explain and translate relevant details of the Open Shift platform and its components
- Design and develop cloud applications, features, and enhancements with an emphasis on clean, efficient, supportable, and well-documented code for the full technology stack
- Collaborate with technical teams, business teams, and product managers to ensure the code developed meets their vision
- Provide efficient solutions and deliverables to shorten the project life cycle, where applicable
- Own the quality of the product delivered by engaging closely in testing activities
- Create visual models (flowcharts, class and activity diagrams, sequence diagrams)
- Fix problems from development through production; be on call for production support
- Support operationally critical environments, using monitoring tools and scripts, data feeds, and analysis of production issues
- Provide mentorship to Junior Engineers as needed
- Exhibit excellent communication skills and the ability to work within a focused team
- Minimum 7 years of software development experience
- Experience in Cloud Technologies (preferably AWS) and application migration to cloud
- Experience in Agile methodologies, Dev Sec Ops , CI/CD pipelines and Build tools (GIT, Maven, Gradle)
- Experience engineering software within an AWS cloud infrastructure or other prominent enterprise cloud provider
- Expertise in Java/J2EE, design patterns, relational DB (Oracle)
- Experience with Web application frameworks and API technologies like Spring Boot, JQuery, Angular
JS and Swagger - Automation-minded: hands-on experience writing automated tests for backend applications and data flow (Postman, REST Assured, Ready API, etc.)
- Experience with containers and managed container orchestrators (Kubernetes/Open Shift) in the cloud (e.g., AWS EKS, Red Hat Open Shift)
- Experience with Unix shell scripting
- Ability to work well in a time-sensitive, team environment with minimal supervision; results-oriented and detail-focused
- Strong technical and non-technical communication skills; ensures timely transmission of critical information
- Fundamental awareness of Application Security principles and 12-factor app development
- Prioritizes safety and security of self, others, and personal data
- Embraces diverse people, thinking, and styles
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
- At least 18 years of age and authorization to work in the United States
- AWS Certified Developer – Associate is a plus
- Experience with containers and managed container orchestrators (Kubernetes/Open Shift) in the cloud
- Experience in cloud managed services and databases
- Knowledge of messaging solutions such as Active
MQ or Kafka
