JOB POSTING
Title:
AI Solutions Developer
STATUS:
Full-time, Exempt
DEPARTMENT:
Information Technology
LOCATION:
Atlanta, GA (Hybrid)
REPORTS TO:
VP, Member Technology
DATE: 10/1/2026
ABOUTTHE ROLE
Uni Pro Food service is hiring its first dedicated AI Solutions Developer. The job is not to run a research lab or train models from scratch. It is to work with our IT teams and the people closest to the business, build software that uses AI where it genuinely helps, and turn the ideas that work into secure, maintainable solutions.
The work will also extend beyond Uni Pro. This role will consult directly with our Members on practical AI opportunities, help them think through tools and implementation approaches, and support Member-facing pilots and solutions. Successful work here can have a meaningful impact across our membership, not only inside our own organization.
ABOUT UNIPROWe're a cooperative of independent food service distributors. Our Members compete against companies many times their size, and they win by staying closer to their customers and moving faster. Uni Pro gives them the scale, buying power, Supplier relationships, data, and technology that would otherwise be much harder to access on their own.
That makes the scope of this role broader than a typical internal development position. Something we build for Uni Pro may improve our own operations first, become part of a Member-facing product, or turn into a practical approach we can help Members apply in their own businesses.
WHAT YOU'LL DOBuild and deliver useful AI solutions
- Design and build AI-enabled software, services, agents, integrations, and automation using appropriate technologies for the problem and the environment.
- Prototype quickly, then take the ideas that work through architecture, testing, security, deployment, monitoring, documentation, and support.
- Work directly with model APIs and practical patterns such as structured outputs, tool or function calling, agents, retrieval-augmented generation, semantic search, and human review where they make sense.
- Work through established Git, pull request, code review, testing, and CI/CD practices with the IT teams responsible for the systems you are changing.
- Work with the teams that own the data to make sure the information behind a solution is reliable enough to build on, and build evaluation and monitoring into what you ship.
- Sit with teams across IT, finance, procurement, rebates, Member operations, and Supplier relationships to understand where the friction really is before deciding what to build.
- Consult directly with Members on practical AI opportunities, tool choices, implementation approaches, controls, and adoption, working with Member Technology and the other Uni Pro teams needed to support the work.
- Help Members and internal teams understand what is realistic, where the tradeoffs are, and what needs more validation before it is ready for production use.
- Run pilots with the people who will use the result, including Members where appropriate, measure what worked and what did not, and use that feedback to improve the next version.
- Bring what we learn from Member work back into Uni Pro standards, reusable patterns, and Member-facing solutions where it can help the broader membership.
- Work with IT leadership and the appropriate IT teams to establish a standard process for evaluating, approving, building, and releasing AI capabilities across Uni Pro.
- Help put the right controls around each use case, including risk assessment, data handling and security, architecture and code quality, testing and evaluation, documentation, ownership, monitoring, and long-term maintainability.
- Help define when additional review, approval, or training is needed before a tool or feature is made broadly available, and make sure users have the guidance they need to use it well.
- Contribute to Uni Pro's AI roadmap, bring a practical technical point of view to what is feasible and worth doing, and work with the responsible teams to deliver against it.
- Test new models, tools, and frameworks when there is a reason to do so, and document what each material effort was meant to achieve and what it actually delivered.
We're looking for someone who already knows how to build software and has gone far enough into applied AI to be useful on day one. You do not need to have trained models…
