We're seeking a passionate, experienced head coach who sees basketball as more than wins and losses - though we value competitive excellence. We're looking for someone to lead our comprehensive girls' basketball program across all levels (Middle School, JV, Varsity) and understands that coaching is teaching, that athletics build character, and that the relationships you form with your players will impact them long after they leave the court.

Primary Responsibilities Program Leadership & Development

Oversee holistic girls' basketball program across MS, JV, and Varsity levels, creating unified culture aligned with Lovett's mission and values. Lead and mentor coaching staff across all tiers, ensuring consistency in philosophy, approach, and player development through regular feedback and evaluation. Plan developmentally appropriate practices for all skill levels, emphasizing progression from fundamentals through advanced strategy. Manage player assessment and team selection process across all levels, developing structured evaluation rubrics and providing meaningful feedback.

Coordinate enrichments, summer camps, and development initiatives to build program talent pool and community engagement.

Varsity Head Coaching

Design and implement competitive practice plans and game strategies. Build team culture emphasizing excellence, sportsmanship, and character. Manage game preparation, in-game coaching, and post-game analysis. Organize and oversee scheduling of games, practices, tournaments, and events for all levels.

Player Development & Recruitment Support

Guide student‑athletes pursuing collegiate basketball through recruitment process, offering resources on academic eligibility and exposure opportunities. Build relationships with college scouts, coaches, and AAU organizations to advocate for players and enhance visibility. Maintain current knowledge of NCAA/NAIA regulations to provide accurate recruitment and eligibility guidance. Create pathways for player advancement from middle school through varsity.

Compliance & Operations

Ensure GHSA compliance across program – maintain eligibility records, schedules, and required documentation in coordination with athletic department. Participate in GHSA meetings and training; educate program community on sportsmanship standards and ethical play. Manage program budget and ensure adherence to allocated resources. Drive 14‑passenger bus for team transportation as needed.

Community & Relationship Building

Cultivate positive connections with student‑athletes, families, and broader school community. Establish supportive, welcoming team environment emphasizing fairness, respect, and individual growth. Represent program with professionalism and embody Lovett values.

Professional Growth

Pursue professional development to strengthen coaching abilities and advance expertise as education‑based sports leader. Stay current on basketball trends, coaching methodologies, and player development research. Additional duties as assigned by Director of Athletics.

Required Qualifications
  • Employment &

    Education:

    Must be current full‑time Lovett employee OR actively pursuing full‑time faculty/staff position at The Lovett School. Bachelor's degree required;
    Master's preferred.
  • Experience & Expertise:
    Minimum 5 years coaching experience (head coaching experience strongly preferred). Proven ability to develop basketball programs and build meaningful player relationships. Deep understanding of basketball strategy, skill development, and player evaluation. Knowledge of GHSA rules and regulations. Ability to drive 14‑passenger bus.
  • Professional

    Competencies:

    Deep understanding of how unconscious bias impacts the workplace. Outstanding organizational, management, and motivational skills. Ability to maintain professionalism under pressure. Exceptional communication skills with players, families, and colleagues. Commitment to whole‑child development and character‑based coaching.
Preferred Qualifications
  • CPR and First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Collegiate playing or coaching experience.
  • Experience with college recruitment and NCAA/NAIA compliance.
  • Connections within Atlanta basketball community.
  • Experience organizing camps, clinics, and player development programs.
