Georgia State University Department of Recreational Services is searching for an outstanding candidate to fill the role of Aquatics, Safety and Student Development Coordinator.
DutiesGeorgia State University, Department of Recreational Services, is searching for an outstanding candidate to fill the role of Aquatics, Safety and Student Development Coordinator. This position is based at the Downtown Atlanta campus and will provide supervision to Atlanta campus facility. Primary responsibilities will be the management of the operations and programs for the Aquatic Center located at the Student Recreation Center.
The facility includes a lap swim pool, leisure pool, spa, sauna pool patio area. Oversee the operation and general cleanliness of indoor pools and pool patio. Serves as needed for any Certified Pool Operator duties. Assists the Certified Pool Operator with maintaining balanced water chemistry. Assess risk management issues involving patrons, staff, and program participants. Serves the chair of the department Risk Management Committee.
Support the department through safety and risk management education and training. Develops and implements policies and procedures for aquatic programs and operations. Maintains and updates website and department registration information regarding aquatics. Have hands‑on knowledge of pool equipment, operations, experience with safety and risk management, event planning, aquatic programming, budget management and effective oral and written communication skills are required. Supervise, mentor, evaluate and effectively lead 1 Graduate Assistant and 25+ student lifeguard assistants.
Recruit, hire, train, and schedule student staff in the positions of lifeguards, swim instructors and safety class instructors. Manage regular in‑service safety training, mock emergencies, and semester audits. Provide leadership and guidance to aquatics staff. Serves the chair of the department Student Staff Development committee. Supports and implements the department wide initiatives, programs and planning for student staff development. Develop, coordinate, and teach all group adult learn to swim classes.
Develop, coordinate, and teach CPR/AED/Epinephrine (safety) certification classes for patrons offered through our programming and for departmental professional staff and student staff. Manage equipment inventory, purchasing for aquatics and safety area. Work with the Assistant Director, Recreation in developing, and managing Aquatics program budget to include payroll approval, equipment, and supplies.
This position will require some weekend and evening hours.
Minimum Hiring Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Physical Education, Sports Administration or related field and three years of related experience or a combination of training and experience.
- Must have CPR and First Aid Certifications.
- Master’s degree in Recreation, Sports Administration or related field.
- 4 years of aquatic management experience with an emphasis on campus recreation programming and administration.
- Certifications as a Lifeguard Instructor Trainer, Water Safety Instructor Trainer, CPR/First Aid/AED Instructor trainer, and certified pool operator certification.
- Evidence of student staff supervision including hiring, training, supervising, payroll and evaluation.
