Position: CRIMINAL INFORMATION SYSTEMS TECHNICIAN

UNCLASSIFIED POSITION IN THE FULTON COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE

AVAILABLE SHIFT ASSIGNMENTS: 3PM - 11PM OR 11PM - 7AM

MUST BE FLEXIBLE TO WORK VARIOUS SHIFTS AS NEEDED, INCLUDING NIGHTS, HOLIDAYS AND WEEKENDS - 24/7 OPERATIONS

Primary Responsibilities
  • Administrative Support:
    Read and understand different criminal charges and documents; perform various administrative duties as needed
  • Data Entry and Maintenance:
    Accurately input and update criminal justice information into various databases, including arrest records, warrants, and incident reports
  • Data Retrieval and Analysis:
    Retrieve and analyze criminal information to assist in investigations, identify trends, and generate reports
  • Security and Compliance:
    Ensure compliance with data privacy and security regulations, including access controls and strict confidentiality protocols
  • Collaboration:

    Work closely with law enforcement agencies and officers, analysts, and other stakeholders to support their investigative needs
Qualifications
  • Technical

    Skills:

    Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), computer systems, databases, and data entry
  • Attention to Detail:
    Ability to accurately input and verify data

    Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills
  • Communication

    Skills:

    Effective communication skills, both written and verbal

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience working in a Booking Unit
  • Experience with specific criminal justice information systems (e.g., GCIC, NCIC, RMS, etc.)

    May involve working non‑standard hours or shifts, as required

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED required; supplemented by one year of clerical or customer service experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Specific License or Certification

Required:

Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC) Certification;
Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) Network Operator Training;
Security and Awareness Training must be obtained within first 90 days of employment.

Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities:
Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all county or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position. May be required to pass a typing test as a condition of employment. If applicable, must accurately type a minimum of 40 wpm, utilizing a personal computer.

Purpose of Classification:
The purpose of this classification is to perform work relating to entry and retrieval of information from the Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC) and the National Crime Information Center (NClC) systems. Assignment location may vary.

Essential Functions

Processes inmates into jail booking and fingerprinting, updates records with court dispositions and criminal arrest warrants, schedules and prepares court calendars for inmates, disseminates sensitive GCIC data via GCIC/NCIC terminal to other law enforcement agencies, communicates via mobile devices with emergency dispatcher, registers sex offenders on National Offender Registry and enters temporary and permanent protection orders (TPO) on databanks.

Responds to GCICI/NCIC hit requests, performs GCIC/NClC inquiries for offenders admitted to jail, places detainers/holds for extradition, immigration, and other local law enforcement agencies, processes apprehension requests within a limited timeframe, and processes court orders to admit or release inmates.

Updates inmate records upon case dispositions or court orders, enters warrants, maintains inmate data, charge status, and disposition in Odyssey, validates GCIC/NCIC warrant entries, modifies and cancels warrants on GCIC/NCIC and Odyssey, logs and disseminates GCIC/NCIC sensitive information to…
