Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Pipe Welder with a strong maritime background to perform high-quality welding on piping systems in accordance with industry standards and specifications. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in multiple welding processes, the ability to interpret technical documentation, and a commitment to safety, quality, and productivity in a shipyard environment.
Responsibilities
- Comprehend and follow instructions, drawings, and general correspondence
- Maintain a working knowledge of ship repair terminology and ship compartment naming conventions
- Wear and properly utilize all required personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with OSHA standards
- Prepare written condition reports and recommend corrective actions when required
- Perform pipe welding using SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, GTAW, and silver brazing processes as applicable
- Certify and perform welding on P-3 joints with permanent backing rings and P-14 socket weld joints
- Interpret drawings, specifications, and applicable Navy, MSC, ABS, and industry standard manuals
- Operate, maintain, and care for welding equipment, portable power tools, and hand tools
- Provide direction to pipe welding helpers as needed to complete assigned tasks
- Arrive at the designated worksite on time and work assigned shifts and overtime as required
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment at all times
- Ensure work areas are properly prepared and safe for hot work operations
- Communicate effectively with Fire Watch personnel and provide direction as needed
- Produce quality workmanship and provide Objective Quality Evidence (OQE) as required
- Confer with supervisors to resolve unexpected issues related to assigned work
- Carry out written and verbal instructions efficiently and safely
- Comply with all company policies, including non-discrimination and anti-harassment policies
Qualifications
- Minimum of four (4) years of pipe welding experience in the maritime industry
- Thorough knowledge of SMAW, FCAW, and GMAW welding theory
- Ability to certify in:
- P-3 Joint with Permanent Backing Ring
- P-14 Socket Weld Joint
- SMAW
- GTAW
- FCAW
- Silver Brazing
- Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and technical manuals
- Working knowledge of marine pipe welding equipment and processes
- Ability to operate welding equipment, portable power tools, and hand tools
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations including fractions and decimals
- Understanding of U.S. customary and metric measurement systems
- OSHA 10 Certification required
- Fire Watch Certification required
- Must be DBIDS eligible
- Must be able to work any shift as required
- Must be physically and medically capable of wearing all required PPE, including respirators, harnesses, flotation gear, and other safety equipment
