Senior Systems Engineer – Concurrent Engineering Lead
Leidos is seeking a Systems Engineer who will serve as the Concurrent Engineering Lead for a dynamic team working on the development of an air traffic control and management system that improves aircraft runway and terminal congestion. The program is part of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Terminal Flight Data Manager (TFDM) program, a Next Gen initiative aimed at providing new and comprehensive integrated surface traffic control and management capabilities.
Responsibilities- Provide cross‑functional technical leadership and coordination for the TFDM program.
- Modernize air traffic control tower equipment by improving electronic flight data exchange and implementing electronic flight strips.
- Streamline departure scheduling to improve surface efficiency.
- Optimize collaboration and decision‑making between gate and tower operations.
- Lead the TFDM engineering team on SIG/CRs, change request implementation, and site deployment activities.
- Drive technical teams to ensure system solutions align with mission and contractual requirements.
- Develop and manage plans to meet program schedule, budget, quality, and specification goals.
- Monitor schedules, timelines, and milestones from initiation to delivery.
- Coordinate across product teams and functional areas to assign and prioritize tasks.
- Deliver progress reports and presentations to internal and external engineering and program management.
- Identify dependencies and issues; recommend solutions to achieve productivity, quality, and customer satisfaction goals.
- Review and ensure quality of deliverables and work products across the team.
- Act as a technical interface with the FAA customer to address requirements, use cases, and design decisions.
- Perform hands‑on Systems Engineering work as needed for the TFDM system.
- Provide on‑site transition support at TFDM sites.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities and strong Systems Engineering technical skills.
- Experience in complex projects, gathering user requirements and converting them into system requirements.
- Proven support of highly critical customer missions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience working directly with customers and interfacing with other functional areas (e.g., Software, Hardware).
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Typically requires a BS degree and 8–12 years of relevant experience or a Masters with 6–10 years of relevant experience. A Doctorate in a technical domain may be acceptable.
- Familiarity with the National Airspace System and FAA Air Traffic Control programs.
- Experience supporting Technical Interchange and Working Group meetings with customers.
- Experience with IBM Doors and IBM Rhapsody.
- Familiarity with SysML and Systems Engineering modeling and design approaches.
- Experience with the Atlassian Tool Suite and JIRA.
