Position: SENIOR PLANNING AIDE

Responsibilities

  • Perform field and office planning work involved in preparing planning surveys.
  • Collect and compile data for planning surveys and transpose statistical data into visual form.
  • Assist in creating graphic and written presentations of solutions for planning problems.
  • Assist in transposing statistical data for use in maps and charts.
  • Support subdividers by advising on procedures and reviewing subdivision plans.
  • Inform applicants for zoning variances and compile data for zoning maps.
  • Compile information on land use, calculate acreage for open land surveys, and conduct studies of public facilities.
  • Maintain essential records and files.
  • Learn and utilize electronic, manual, and computerized recording and information systems used by the agency.
Requirements
  • Experience:

    One (1) year of experience performing field and office tasks for planning surveys, data collection, and data visualization. A thirty (30) semester‑hour credit load in planning coursework from an accredited college or university may substitute for the required experience.
  • License: A valid driver’s license in New Jersey is required only if vehicle operation is necessary for essential duties.
  • Examples of Work:
    • Knowledge of methods and techniques used in planning work and in arithmetic calculations.
    • Knowledge of fundamentals of algebra, plane geometry, and trigonometry.
    • Ability to understand, remember, and follow written and oral directions.
    • Ability to learn quickly from written and oral explanations and from demonstrations.
    • Ability to organize assigned field and office work.
    • Ability to follow established work methods.
    • Ability to keep essential records and files.
    • Ability to learn to use various electronic and/or manual recording and information systems.
    • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English sufficiently to perform the duties of the position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be acceptable for communication.
