Supervisory Aviation Safety Inspector (Flight Oversight)

This Supervisory Aviation Safety Inspector (Flight Oversight) will not conduct certification (pilot evaluating, testing, and checking) job functions as a required crew member, including safety pilot. This position will apply a broad knowledge of the aviation industry, aviation safety, and Federal aviation laws, regulations, and policies.

The Group Manager (GM) directs the work of subordinate employees and managers that focus on the day-to-day operations for pilots by developing specific skills to the desired standard with the help of information, instruction, guidance, and practice for training and standardization programs within a major subdivision. Work usually includes a mixture of routine and complex projects/programs based on the objectives of the major subdivision/LOB/SO.

Managerial duties include coaching and mentoring to enhance team/group performances, communicating the organization's vision and objectives, implementing workforce planning, monitoring performance, setting group priorities, and working collaboratively to resource and achieve results.

Defines, plans, and organizes assigned budget, staff, and other resources to accomplish objectives for more than one organizational unit/project/program. Manages budget and either reallocates resources among organizational units/projects/programs or requests additional resources, as needed. Performs critical aspects of the budget planning process, including projecting short-term and long-term future needs and justifying resource requirements.

Applies advanced knowledge of the applicable 14 CFRs, aviation compliance and enforcement, training and standards, and aviation safety systems and their functions. Demonstrates advanced understanding of budget, human resource, administrative policies and procedures, national initiatives, and the objectives of the DOT/FAA.

Contacts are primarily with AJF management officials and executives within ATO to discuss the status of AJF regulatory training and standards program. In some areas, may have frequent contact with customers, other government entities, and other external parties to interpret policies/procedures or for other project/program purposes. Has authority to make commitments for subordinate organizational units, within guidelines.

Work is typically governed by the applicable CFR, internal procedures, and AJF/ATO objectives that frequently leave room for discretion. Resolves all but unique problems without the intervention of higher-level management. Regularly called upon to identify problem areas, document findings and/or solutions for non-compliances, and develop and recommend new policies and procedures for resolution.

Individual and organizational performance is typically reviewed periodically by higher-level management, usually through status reports and organizational performance measures. Has discretion to ensure the alignment of projects/programs with the tactical (short-term) objectives of the major subdivision.

Work activities typically impact directly on project/program objectives for more than one organizational unit and for the major subdivision. Work frequently affects the major subdivision's internal and external customers.

The essential functions of this position require in-person performance.
