An upscale, select service hotel is seeking an experienced and technically strong Director of Engineering to oversee the property's engineering, maintenance, and building operations.

The Director of Engineering will be responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all hotel physical plant systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, life-safety, building automation, and preventative maintenance systems
.

The ideal candidate is a hands‑on engineering leader with significant hotel engineering experience and strong HVAC expertise
. This individual must understand the operational demands of a luxury hotel and be capable of leading a skilled engineering team while maintaining exceptional guest comfort, safety, and property standards.

Key Responsibilities Engineering & Building Operations
  • Direct all engineering and maintenance operations for the hotel.
  • Ensure reliable operation and maintenance of all building systems and equipment.
  • Maintain responsibility for HVAC, electrical, plumbing, boilers, chillers, pumps, generators, refrigeration, elevators, and mechanical systems
    .
  • Oversee building automation and energy management systems.
  • Ensure guest rooms, public areas, restaurants, meeting spaces, back-of-house areas, and mechanical spaces are maintained to the highest standards.
  • Respond promptly to engineering emergencies and operational issues.
  • Provide direct oversight of all hotel HVAC systems and related mechanical equipment.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot HVAC issues and coordinate repairs as necessary.
  • Manage preventative maintenance programs for chillers, boilers, air handlers, cooling towers, pumps, compressors, and associated equipment.
  • Monitor temperature, humidity, ventilation, and indoor air quality throughout the property.
  • Ensure guest comfort and consistent climate control across guest rooms and public spaces.
  • Maintain appropriate relationships with HVAC contractors, service providers, and equipment vendors.
  • Develop strategies to improve HVAC reliability, efficiency, and energy performance.
Preventative Maintenance
  • Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive preventative maintenance program.
  • Establish maintenance schedules for all major hotel systems and equipment.
  • Monitor completion of preventative maintenance work orders.
  • Identify potential equipment failures before they impact guests or hotel operations.
  • Maintain accurate engineering records, service histories, inspections, and warranties.
  • Utilize CMMS or computerized maintenance systems effectively.
  • Recruit, train, lead, and develop the hotel's engineering team.
  • Establish clear performance expectations and departmental standards.
  • Schedule engineering staff to provide appropriate coverage across all shifts.
  • Provide ongoing technical and safety training.
  • Coach and mentor Engineering Managers, Supervisors, and technicians.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, responsiveness, teamwork, and professionalism.
Capital Projects & Renovations
  • Partner with hotel leadership on capital improvement projects, renovations, and property enhancements.
  • Assist with project planning, budgeting, vendor selection, and execution.
  • Review engineering plans and specifications for new construction and renovations.
  • Ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget.
  • Maintain minimal disruption to guests and hotel operations during construction.
  • Develop and manage the Engineering department's annual operating and capital budgets.
  • Monitor departmental expenses and identify cost‑saving opportunities.
  • Manage labor costs and staffing levels.
  • Evaluate vendor contracts and service agreements.
  • Develop energy conservation strategies to reduce operating costs.
  • Track utility consumption and identify opportunities for improved efficiency.
Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal building, fire, environmental, and safety regulations.
  • Maintain all required permits, inspections, licenses, and certifications.
  • Ensure fire/life-safety systems are properly maintained and tested.
  • Partner with Risk Management and Security on emergency preparedness.
