Position: Registered Nurse – Emergency Department City Campus - Per Diem

POSITION SUMMARY

The Registered Nurse is a member of the interdisciplinary team collaborating with Physicians. The RN applies the nursing care process, oversees coordination of interdisciplinary plans of care, and ensures consistency with the medical treatment plan in inpatient, outpatient, and community settings.

Responsibilities
  • Initiate and implement culturally competent care, including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation.
  • Develop and document the assessment, plan of care, intervention, and evaluation (ACME) for patients, using subjective and objective data.
  • Perform limited laboratory services: patient identification, specimen collection preparation, processing, quality control, instrument maintenance, and results reporting.
  • Administer performance‑improvement initiatives and provide leadership to the patient‑care team.
  • Participate in educational activities to support continuous professional and personal growth.
Qualifications Education / License
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing school; BSN preferred.
  • RNs without a BSN must enroll in a BSN program within 1 year and complete it within 3 years.
  • Valid RN license in New Jersey or a current multi‑state license.
  • BLS required.
  • Valid NJ Driver's License for Adult and Child Partial Programs.
Experience

Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred umbents will receive training and be expected to demonstrate competency within 30–60 days.

Certifications
  • ACLS required within 6 months of hire or transfer.
  • ATCN or TNCC required within 24 months of hire or transfer.
  • Minimum 8 contact hours of basic trauma education annually.
  • Minimum 8 contact hours of basic stroke education annually, completed by 6 months of hire.
  • PALS or ENPC within 12 months of hire or transfer.
  • CCRN preferred; PALS preferred.
  • Additional unit‐specific certifications detailed below.
Unit and Specialty Requirements
  • Emergency Room – 2+ years medical/surgical or ER experience; ACLS required; PALS/ENPC; ongoing trauma and stroke education; CPI required by 6/30/24.
  • Trauma Bay – 2+ years trauma experience; ACLS, PALS, ATCN at hire.
  • ICU/CTICU – 2+ years medical/surgical experience, critical care preferred; ACLS within 6 months; CCRN preferred.
  • Cardiovascular ICU – 2+ years critical care; ACLS within 6 months; CCRN preferred.
  • HVU – 2+ years telemetry; ACLS within 6 months.
  • PCU (Harbor) – 2+ years telemetry; ACLS within 6 months.
  • Medical/Surgical (various sites) – 2+ years medical/surgical experience; ACLS within 6 months.
  • Operating Room – Medical/surgical and OR experience; scrub training required; ACLS by 12/31/24 for City OR RN.
  • PACU/Recovery – PACU or ICU experience; ACLS at hire; PALS within 6 months.
  • Intervention Radiology – 2+ years medical/surgical; ACLS at hire; PALS within 1 year.
  • Cath Lab / EP – Critical care or cath‑lab experience preferred; ACLS at hire.
  • Endoscopy – 2+ years medical/surgical; ACLS within 6 months; PALS, CCRN, CGRN preferred.
  • Oncology Infusion – Oncology experience preferred; OCN preferred; ONS chemotherapy competency within 6 months.
  • Structural Heart – 2+ years cardiology experience; acephnability in phlebotomy, EKG and IV insertion; ACLS at hire.
  • Wound Care – Medical/surgical experience; ACLS within 6 months; HBO training within 1 year.
  • Psychiatry – Medical/surgical and psychiatry experience; QPRT annual education within 6 months.
  • Labor & Delivery / NICU / OB – 2+ years labor delivery or neonatal ICU experience; ACLS within 6 months; NRP within 1 year.
  • Adolescent/Behavioral Health – Experience in behavioral health; crisis intervention preferred.
Performance Expectations

Demonstrate all department‑specific competencies as outlined in the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.

Work Environment
  • Potential exposure to blood borne pathogens, infectious disease, hazardous substances, radiation, and physical injury.
  • Reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, walking, lifting 25–50 lb frequently and 50–100 lb occasionally.
  • Ability to distinguish colors may be required in some departments.
