Registered Nurse – Med Surg – Float
Job SummaryThe Registered Nurse is a member of an interdisciplinary team working in collaboration with the Physician to deliver culturally competent, continuous, patient-centered care in inpatient, outpatient, and community settings. The RN oversees coordination of the interdisciplinary plan of care, ensuring alignment with the medical treatment plan and institutional policies.
Key Responsibilities- Apply the nursing care process: assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments identifying physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and cultural needs.
- Develop and document patient-centered plans of care consistent with clinical priorities.
- Implement interventions and orders that reflect the documented plan of care.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of interventions, adjust goals and interventions as needed.
- Perform limited laboratory services including specimen identification, preparation, processing, quality control, and reporting to clinicians.
- Support performance-improvement initiatives and lead other team members.
- Maintain professional growth through participation in continuing education and training.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred.
- Current RN license in New Jersey or multi-state license required.
- BLS required; ACLS required within 6 months of assignment.
- Valid New Jersey driver’s license.
- 2–4 years medical/surgical experience; 2 years emergency-room experience preferred.
- Advanced certification—ATCN or TNCC—required after 24 months; PALS or ENPC and NEC (NIHSS) competencies required within 12 months.
- Experience with trauma, stroke, obstetric, neonatal, critical care, or specialty units as outlined in the organization’s rotating schedule.
- Emergency Room, Labor & Delivery, Neonatal Intensive Care, Critical Care, Operating Room, and other specialty units may require additional certifications such as NRP, NALS, CNOR, CCRN, CGRN etc. as per unit needs.
- All RNs must complete minimum contact hours (8 hrs/year) in trauma, stroke, and basic assessment topics per unit requirements.
Demonstrate competency in departmental tools, assess prevention, develop safe practice, meet learning objectives, and meet departmental quality measures.
Work Environment- Potential exposure to blood borne pathogens, infectious diseases, hazardous substances, and injury.
- Requiring frequent standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, lifting 25–50 lbs frequently; occasional lifting 50–100 lbs with assistance.
- Ability to distinguish colors and navigate small work areas, especially in the electrophysiology lab, may be necessary.
This position reports to the patient-care unit or department leadership.
Unit Populations ServedThe RN will provide care to diverse patient populations including bariatric, cardiology, critical care, behavioral health, dialysis, endoscopy, emergency, oncology, obstetrics, neuropathology, neonatal, and surgical patients.
