Associate Nurse Manager - Trauma ICU
Job Description Position SummaryThe Associate Nurse Manager ensures expert nursing care delivery supporting staff education, achievement of quality outcomes, evidence-based clinical practice, and leadership.
The Associate Nurse Manager supervises team members in their daily activities to ensure the delivery of care according to established departmental policies and procedures. This position assumes responsibility and accountability for the direction, implementation and evaluation of patient care services within the assigned unit at the direction of the Clinical Nurse Manager and in his/her absence. This role is broad in scope and requires the ability to work independently and apply a high degree of judgment.
The Associate Nurse Manager serves as a key supportive leader on the unit to ensure the delivery of patient care through the coordination of customer services and the leadership and management of the nursing unit at the direction of the Clinical Manager. The Associate Nurse manager will also be responsible for the following:
- Assists the Clinical Manager in coordinating interdepartmental and ancillary activities to ensure quality, cost‑effective patient care.
- Assists the Clinical Manager in leading the patient care team to meet the needs of the customers and to achieve departmental objectives.
- Assists the Clinical Manager in ensuring that the staff participates in educational activities and the evaluation process to enhance their personal growth and development.
- Acting as a liaison between nursing and medical staff, serving as a problem‑solver and mediator for positive change; develops and maintains effective intra and interdepartmental relationships.
- Establishes and maintains communication with physicians, patients and their families, and other professionals to promote mutual understanding of problems and plans of care.
- Supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts and demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and cooperation.
Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required. Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
License/Certification: Currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey. American Heart Association BLS required. Specialty certification preferred.
Experience: Meets qualifications as outlined for specialty. Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as leadership skills required. Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred; training within 30–60 days from hire.
Specialty Experience/Certification Requirements- Critical Care: 2–4 years medical/surgical experience required; 1–2 years critical care experience preferred. ACLS required; CCRN preferred.
- Trauma: 2–4 years medical/surgical experience required; 1–2 years trauma experience preferred. ACLS, TNCC required.
Demonstrates the ability to perform the department specific competencies as listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.
Work EnvironmentPotential exposure to hazards of the hospital environment—including infectious diseases, hazardous substances, blood‑borne pathogens, and potential injury.
Physical demands include stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing heavy equipment and excessive standing and walking. Lifting approximately 25–50 lbs. frequently; lifting 50–100 lbs. with assistance occasionally. Some departments require color discrimination.

Reporting RelationshipThis position reports to the Clinical Nurse Manager and supervises licensed practical nurses, registered nurses, and patient care unit staff as assigned.
