Position Summary
The Registered Nurse is a member of the interdisciplinary team working in collaboration with the Physician. The RN utilizes the nursing care process consistent with their license and/or certification, including initiation of culturally competent continuum of care including inpatient, outpatient and community settings. The RN is responsible for coordinating the interdisciplinary plan of care and ensuring consistency with the medical treatment plan.
The patient care process includes:
- Assessment – identification, gathering and organization of subjective and objective data pertaining to the patient/family/significant other, including physical, psychosocial, spiritual and cultural.
- Planning – identification of problems and desired outcomes that result in a documented plan of care, providing direction for the patient/family/significant other and interdisciplinary team.
- Intervention – specific interventions or orders implemented consistent with the plan of care and medical treatment plan.
- Evaluation – determining effectiveness of interventions; initiating reassessment and revisions to the plan when needed; documenting required actions.
- Prioritizing problems and goals, and providing education for patient empowerment.
Employee may be required to perform limited laboratory services, including specimen collection preparation, processing, quality control, instrument maintenance, monitoring, recording, reporting results to clinicians, and maintaining competency/certification.
Licensed and registered care providers document assessment, plan, intervention and evaluation within their scope of practice and knowledge base. All patient care activities are administered according to standards, procedural guidelines and organizational policy.
The RN actively supports performance improvement initiatives, provides leadership to other patient care team members, and participates in educational activities, assuming responsibility for continued professional and personal growth.
Specialty Experience and CertificationsExperience and certification requirements vary by unit and specialty. Common requirements include:
- Emergency Room, Trauma Bay, ICU, CVU, etc. – 2–3 years of relevant experience preferred.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – required within 6 months of hire or as specified per unit.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Advanced Trauma and Critical Care Nursing (ATCN) – required within 12–24 months of hire depending on specialty.
- Certified Critical Care Nurse (CCRN) or Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) – preferred for critical care units.
- Other specialty certifications such as Oncology Nurse (ONC), Cath Lab (CNOR), Stroke Assessment (NIHSS) – as required by specific units.
Education/License:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.
- BSN program enrollment within 1 year for RN without BSN, completion within 3 years.
- Current RN license in New Jersey or a current multi-state license.
- BLS required.
- Valid NJ Driver's License required for Adult and Child Partial Programs.
Experience:
Proficiency in clinical applications preferred at time of hire; incumbents will be trained and required to achieve competence within 30–60 days.
