Professional Practice & Development Coordinator – Emergency Room City Campus – Per Diem Position Summary

The Professional Practice & Development Coordinator uses knowledge of educational and caring science theory, servant leadership, and the practice environment to support lifelong nursing professional development. The role demonstrates competence in nursing education while influencing the professional growth of nursing in a variety of settings. Responsibilities include inspiring and supporting creative and innovative approaches to addressing challenges, promoting the Magnet model components, and functioning as a transformational leader who supports the organization’s goals.

The coordinator supports structural empowerment by establishing relationships and addressing issues with the nursing care team.

Key duties include ensuring nurses have the knowledge and skills necessary to practice, collaborate, and communicate at a professional level. The coordinator identifies educational needs and implements appropriate programs for each specialty/unit, administers, facilitates, conducts, and evaluates competency assessment programs, and teaches care processes and standards of practice. The role supports the development of performance standards, assists staff in working within policies and procedures, and participates in policy review and development.

Additionally, the coordinator acts as a resource for the planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of programs in compliance with NJSNA provider unit policies and procedures.

The coordinator fosters a culture of lifelong learning, integrates technology to support clinical practice, and maximizes the efficiency of existing resources to deliver quality patient care. The position also provides quality customer service, participates in performance improvement efforts, and demonstrates commitment to teamwork, cooperation, and diversity. The role actively participates in quality improvement activities, develops and supports unit‑based PDCA cycles, and implements evidence‑based practice to enable and educate nurses.

Participation in nursing research and support of organizational research activities are also part of the role.

Qualifications
  • Education:

    Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in New Jersey and a Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
  • Certification:
    Specialty certification required within 3 years of hire; BLS/HCP required. Additional certifications such as ACLS, PALS, etc., as identified by the unit.
  • Experience:

    3–5 years clinical experience required; knowledge of adult teaching principles required.
  • Skills:

    Excellent verbal and written communication. Leadership skills preferred.
  • Technology:
    Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at time of hire; training provided and skill required within 30–60 days.

  • Serve as a resource for continued learning and professional self‑development for staff and peers.
  • Participate in organizational professional education and evaluate teaching strategies for specific patient populations.
  • Apply nursing and learning theoretical and conceptual foundations to program development.

  • Advocate for Nursing Professional Development programs that support learner and organizational needs.
