POSITION SUMMARYThe High School Principal serves as the instructional and operational leader of Atlantic High School and reports directly to the Superintendent. The High School Principal provides leadership in curriculum, instruction, school improvement, student services, staff development, and daily operations while fostering a safe and engaging learning environment for all students.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Instructional Leadership- Lead continuous improvement efforts focused on student achievement and instructional excellence
- Support effective teaching practices, curriculum alignment, and assessment systems
- Utilize student data to guide decision‑making and school improvement planning
- Promote innovation and student‑centered learning opportunities
- Supervise, support, and evaluate licensed and classified staff
- Foster a collaborative and positive professional culture
- Encourage professional growth and leadership development among staff
- Maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive school environment
- Oversee student attendance, discipline, and behavioral support systems
- Build strong relationships with students, families, and staff
- Promote student engagement in academics, activities, and extracurricular programs
- Manage building operations, budgets, and resources effectively
- Ensure compliance with Iowa Code, Board policy, and Department of Education requirements
- Collaborate with district leadership, families, and community stakeholders
- Support and promote school activities, athletics, and student organizations
- Valid Iowa Administrative License with 9–12 Principal endorsement (Iowa BOEE)
- Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, Administration, or related field
- Minimum of three (3) years of successful teaching experience
- Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills
- Commitment to building positive relationships and a strong school culture
- Demonstrated ability to serve as an instructional leader for high school staff, including supporting, coaching, and evaluating teachers to improve classroom instruction and student outcomes
- Previous building-level administrative experience
- Secondary education leadership experience
