Subject Matter Specialist - Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Obesity Subject Matter Specialist Position Status:
Contingent upon contract award.

Position Summary Provide applied specialty expertise and hands-on technical assistance to help DNPAO recipients and partners adopt, implement, adapt, and sustain evidence-based public health strategies. This role provides hands-on specialty support to DNPAO recipients and partners implementing evidence-based nutrition, physical activity, obesity-prevention, ECE, FHWP, food-service, breastfeeding, arthritis, or community-design strategies. The specialist will help translate subject expertise into tailored technical assistance, implementation tools, trainings, action plans, and practical recommendations responsive to recipient context and identified barriers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver individual and group technical assistance within the assigned specialty.
  • Develop practical guidance, implementation tools, presentations, training resources, and technical products.
  • Help recipients identify barriers, select appropriate strategies, and strengthen implementation plans.
  • Support webinars, office hours, work groups, partner calls, site visits, and learning communities.
  • Identify emerging evidence and promising practices relevant to DNPAO strategies.
  • Document technical-assistance needs, services, outcomes, challenges, and recommendations.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education:

    Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience:

    At least 8 years of directly relevant applied experience in the designated specialty, including technical assistance, implementation support, training, stakeholder engagement, and development of practical tools or guidance. Experience working with public health recipients, community partners, or CDC-funded strategies is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce accurate, timely, and high-quality work in a multidisciplinary, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, collaboration, organization, judgment, and client-service skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience supporting CDC, HHS, another federal health agency, a public health recipient network, or a comparable mission-focused organization.
