At SSAB, Mill Metallurgist optimizes steel mill operations, drives product and quality improvements, analyzes data for actionable insights, and ensures compliance through innovative metallurgical practices.

• Works independently, with ability in at least one major area of mill operations (Primary, Rolling and Finishing, Heat Treatment.)
• Develops operating practices to produce quality steel products meeting or exceeding industry standards and customer requirements.
• Reviews manufacturing practices on an ongoing basis to ensure compliance with established operating practices.
• Design, execution and reporting of product development and quality improvement trials with some guidance from Senior Metallurgist.
• Interprets data and makes recommendations to Operations management.
• Investigates quality-related production problems and collaborates with other departments to find cost-effective solutions.
• Implements SPC techniques for quality and productivity enhancements.
• Manages disposition of material which does not meet requirements for intended application.
• Complete required training within designated time frames and attend all required meetings.
• Understand and support the company’s goals and values and adhere to company, department, safety, quality, environmental, and ethics policies and procedures.

Required

• B.S. degree in Metallurgical Engineering or related discipline
• At least 2 years of relevant post-graduate education or industry experience and/or demonstrated technical proficiency.
• Very good computer skills, including Microsoft 365 proficiency and the ability to navigate multiple databases.
• Strong analytical capability and problem-solving skills including some skill with SPC
• Good communication, collaboration, interpersonal and teamwork skills.

• Work experience in a manufacturing environment (preferably with a metallurgical focus)
