Position: Chemical Operator Job

The Chemical Operator, reporting to the supervisor, will work in the Kepstan (PEKK) production unit in the Axis, Al plant. PEKK is produced in a batch process using numerous chemical unit operations. The PEKK operator will be responsible for day-to-day operations in the production unit. It is critical that the jobholder have good communication skills and work well in teams. Attention to detail and accurate reporting are essential.

Traceability is a requirement in the Kepstan business. The position is located in a chemical manufacturing facility with all the inherent risks. This position requires shift work that rotates day and night shifts. Activities may include:

Activities
  • Executes daily activities with limited direct supervision.
  • Follows all procedures, temporary procedures and MOC's to effectively and efficient produce product
  • Follows production instructions to produce in-spec quality product on a timely basis
  • Pulls samples for testing in QC lab
  • Understands and uses DCS to control production process
  • Troubleshoot production issues.
  • Follows all site safety requirements and issue safe work permits as needed to execute daily activities.
  • Maintains neat and clean work area.
  • Expected to conduct/attend daily safety briefings and shift turnover meetings.
  • Uses Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word to accurately document operating guidelines and necessary process data.
  • Uses fork truck to move product.
  • Expected to develop and maintain a good working relationship with multiple outside contractor groups along with interplant departments.
  • Rotates into all jobs for the unit
  • Trains/mentors new team members
  • Identifies and communicates possible improvements to the process
Qualifications
  • Higih school diploma or equivalent
  • 3+ years manufaturing experience
  • 1+ year chemical manufacturing experience strongly preferred
  • Ability to work independently or in a team
  • High degree of self-motivation
  • Understanding of production processes
  • Experience with EXCEL/WORD, etc.
  • Accuracy in reporting prodcution parameters
  • Troubleshooting skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to drive/learn fork truck
