The SPARK program provides a highly structured environment to develop students’ academic, social awareness, social communication, and self-regulation skills to create positive relationships with peers in the least restrictive environment. Students are supported in generalizing skills across school environments as needed. Students have been identified with moderate to significant needs in academics, social awareness, social communication, and/or self-regulation.
Position PurposeUnder the direct supervision of a certified staff member, to assist certified professional staff with students in the classroom to meet instructional goals and objectives.
Essential Job Functions- Implements lessons and activities with the necessary accommodations and modifications required to meet the individual needs of students in the classroom as directed by the teacher.
- Implements interventions and de-escalation strategies with students who display significant behavioral issues within the school setting.
- Collects and accurately records behavioral, social, academic, and other data as required per student’s specific goals and programming.
- Consistently communicates and collaborates with staff to foster student success.
- Assists students with physical or social disabilities with activities of daily living to maximize their participation in school or learning activities.
- Implements positive behavior support plans and collects data on student progress.
- Assists students in non-instructional areas, such as supervising lunch programs, bus duty, playground duty, corridors, and other related non-instructional areas including self-care (toileting).
- Performs other job duties as required or directed by supervisors.

Skills and Abilities
- Experience with ABA principles.
- Experience with collecting data.
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
- Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees and others.
- Ability to establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with students with disabilities.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work.
- Effective writing and verbal communication skills.
- Able to assist with all aspects of student self-care including toileting.
- Implement crisis/emergency procedures according to protocol.
- Highly Qualified; 2 years college credits or equivalent (Para Pro).
- Prior experience working with students with disabilities preferred.
- Safety Care or comparable de-escalation training preferred.
$32,266 - $47,397 per year
