Paraprofessional Special Education – Insights – Thacher Elementary School

Attleboro Public Schools, Thacher Elementary School – Attleboro, Massachusetts

August 2026 (orientation days prior)

The program provides a highly structured environment that uses the principles of Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) to develop social, behavioral, communication, and academic skills. Students receive individualized and small group instruction and staff supports.

Job Purpose:

Under the direct supervision of a certified staff member, assist certified professional staff with students in the classroom to meet instructional goals and objectives.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Implements lessons and activities with the necessary accommodations and modifications required to meet the individual needs of students in the classroom as directed by the teacher.
  • Implements interventions and de‑escalation strategies with students who display significant behavioral issues within the school setting.
  • Collects and accurately records behavioral, social, academic, and other data as required per student’s specific goals and programming.
  • Consistently communicates and collaborates with staff to foster student success.
  • Assists students with physical or social disabilities with activities of daily living to maximize their ability to participate in school or learning activities.
  • Implements positive behavior support plans and collects data on student progress.
  • Assists students in non‑instructional areas, such as supervising lunch programs, bus duty, playground duty, corridor, and self‑care such as toileting.
  • Performs other job duties as required or directed by supervisors.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience with ABA.
  • Experience with collecting data.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees and others.
  • Ability to establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with students with disabilities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work.
  • Effective writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to assist with all aspects of student self‑care, including toileting.
  • Implement crisis/emergency procedures according to protocol.

Qualifications Profile:

  • Highly qualified; 2 years college credits or equivalent (Para Pro).
  • Prior experience working with students with autism preferred.
  • RBT or ABA experience preferred.
  • Safety care training preferred.

Salary per Attleboro Paraprofessionals Association Collective Bargaining Agreement – Salary Range: $32,266 - $47,397
