Position Purpose Under the general supervision of the School Principal, develop students' knowledge, skills and abilities in comprehending, speaking, reading and writing a language other than English and foster an understanding and appreciation of the native culture of the countries where the language is the primary means of communication.
Essential Functions- Develops and administers world language education curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
- Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates them into engaging learning experiences.
- Teaches knowledge and skills in Spanish, including grammar, syntax, composition, vocabulary and colloquialisms, and translation of literature.
- Develops student understanding and appreciation of the cultures and mores of Spanish‑speaking countries.
- Works with students and others to prepare materials for inclusion in literary publications and contests.
- Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student needs, including students with disabilities.
- Continues to acquire professional knowledge by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or conducting research.
- Organizes and maintains accurate and complete record‑keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
- Encourages parental involvement and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
- Ensures student conduct conforms to school standards and district policies, establishing a functional learning atmosphere.
- Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within grade level, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
- Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids, and supplies, and maintains inventory records.
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, including differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
- Knowledge of Spanish in terms of grammar, vocabulary, connotations, and literature.
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and formulation of action plans.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
- Ability to use computer network systems and software applications.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Ability to engage in self‑evaluation for performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with colleagues.
- Certification/License:
World Language at HS level (Spanish);
Master’s Degree and multiple certifications/licenses preferred. - Massachusetts State Certification as a world language teacher in the particular language taught.
- Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement preferred.
- Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in an education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
- Master’s Degree preferred; successful prior world language teaching experience a plus.
$64,004 – $108,744 annually.
