Job Description

Thacher Elementary School (K-4) provides a highly structured environment that uses the principles of Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) to develop social, academic, and communication skills. A multimodal, multisensory, language‑based approach is utilized to develop communication. Students receive individualized and small‑group instruction and staff supports to develop daily living skills. Positive behavioral supports and sensory tools are utilized to develop self‑regulation. Communication between home, school, and outside service providers ensures the generalization of skills across environments.
Qualifications- Master’s Degree preferred
- Massachusetts Licensure as a Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities (PreK‑8) or Severe (ALL)
- Exceptions to the above qualifications may be made as deemed appropriate and acceptable by the Superintendent
To promote and develop successful learning for students within the program, manage an assigned caseload, maintain regular communication with students, their parents, and appropriate staff members, and develop, revise, and implement IEPs as required by law and regulation.
Reports ToBuilding Principal, Insights Supervisor, and/or Insight Assistant Director of Special Education/Director of Special Education
Responsibilities- Completes all special education requirements including progress reports, IEP development, and facilitation of annual review meetings.
- Develops and administers curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
- Utilizes ABA principles within whole class, small group, and 1:1 instruction.
- Collaborates with general education and related service staff to ensure implementation of students' IEPs and meeting student needs.
- Promotes a positive classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize available instructional time.
- Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.
- Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record‑keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
- Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
- Coordinates with other elementary professional staff members, especially within grade level, to evaluate and assess curriculum, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
- Supervises students in activities that take place out of the classroom during the school day, including activities involving school transportation and personal care including toileting.
- Administers standardized tests in accordance with district testing programs.
- Safety Care trained preferred
- 1–2 years as a special educator
- Training or work experience in ABA
- Experience with Total Communication Approach
- ELL and SEL training preferred (culturally responsive teaching)
$64,004 – $108,744 per year
