Job Description

This program provides a highly structured environment that emphasizes academic skill development, including reading, mathematics, written language, expressive/receptive communication, problem‑solving, and organization. At least 60 % of the student’s day is spent in the general education setting with peers. Services are delivered outside of the general education classroom.

Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree preferred
  • Massachusetts Licensure as a Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities (PreK‑8) or (5‑12)
  • Exceptions may be made as the Superintendent deems appropriate and acceptable
Preferred Experience
  • Safety Care trained
  • 1–2 years as a special educator
  • Experience with reading and math programs such as Lexia, Orton‑Gillingham, or i‑ready
Responsibilities
  • Address the needs of diverse learners in accordance with Federal and State laws and regulations.
  • Administer assessments, interpret evaluations, and write reports.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings to review evaluation results, integrate findings with other disciplines, provide recommendations, and develop Individual Education Programs (IEPs) based on TEAM recommendations.
  • Collaborate with TEAM members to implement specially designed instruction to support educational and social‑emotional behavioral needs in accordance with the student’s IEP.
  • Collaborate with the TEAM to determine and implement appropriate accommodations for classroom assessments and standardized examinations for special education students.
  • Complete all assigned paperwork for the special education process as required by state and federal regulations.
  • Provide targeted and evidence‑based interventions.
  • Fulfill all case management responsibilities associated with the IEP.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential student records.
  • Be involved at the community, system, building, and student levels for school‑wide initiatives such as social‑emotional learning, Universal Design, assistive technology, and program development.
  • Serve as a resource to develop effective teaching strategies for all students.
  • Responsible for annual reviews, written progress notes, parent/teacher conferences, and proctoring state assessments.
  • Use evidence-based research and continuing education to address MA frameworks and to meet licensure requirements.
  • Perform other responsibilities as deemed appropriate and assigned by a supervisor and/or designee.

    To ensure that students with an IEP receive services in accordance with federal and state laws and regulations, and to provide support through MTSS to benefit all students.

    Building Principal and/or Director of Special Education Performance.
