Position SummaryThe SPARK program provides a highly structured environment to develop students' academic, social awareness, social communication, and self-regulation skills to create positive relationships with peers in the least restrictive environment. Students are supported in generalizing skills across school environments as needed. Students have been identified with moderate to significant needs in academics, social awareness, social communication, and/or self-regulation. At Hill-Roberts, the SPARK classroom operates as a collaborative team, composed of two special education teachers and multiple paraprofessionals, working closely together to support the success of all students.
To promote and develop successful learning for students within the program, manage an assigned caseload, maintain regular communication with students, their parents, and appropriate staff members and develop, revise, and implement IEPs as required by law and regulation. The Teacher in the Spark Program effectively supports the education of students who exhibit social communication, academic, and/or social emotional needs that impact their school experiences.
- Master's Degree preferred
- Massachusetts Licensure as a Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities (PreK-8) or Severe (All)
- Exceptions to the above qualifications shall be made as the Superintendent deems appropriate and acceptable

Reports ToBuilding Principal and/or Director of Special Education
Key Responsibilities- Co-lead the SPARK classroom with a fellow special educator, planning and delivering instruction aligned with IEP and/or grade-level goals.
- Utilizes ABA principles within whole class, small group, and 1:1 instruction.
- Collaborates closely with the other SPARK teacher and a team of paraprofessionals to provide consistent, individualized student support.
- Works jointly with general education and related service staff to ensure implementation of students' IEPs and to meet diverse student needs.
- Promotes a positive classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction and student learning.
- Regularly meets with and collaborates with general education teachers to pursue social-emotional, behavioral, and academic goals within general education classroom, when possible.
- Develops standards-based lesson plans by adapting and/or modifying district instructional materials in line with students IEP goals.
- Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and modifies instructional methods to meet individual needs, including students with special needs.
- Organizes and maintains accurate and complete records of student activities, achievement, and attendance.
- Encourages parental involvement and maintains effective communication with families.
- Coordinates with other elementary professional staff members to assess curriculum and participate in faculty meetings and committees.
- Supervises students during activities outside the classroom during the school day, including school transportation.
- Administers standardized tests as required by the district.
- Safety Care or CPI training preferred
- 1-2 years experience as a special educator
- Training or work experience in ABA
- MA DESE, SEI Endorsement preferred (e.g., culturally responsive teaching)
FY26 Salary range: $64,004 - $108,744
