Field Applications Engineer – Industrial
As part of Sensata’s Industrial Business Unit, the Field Applications Engineer (FAE) focuses on the Industrial product portfolio and interfaces with HVAC and clean energy customers. The role works within the FAE Americas group and collaborates closely with engineering, sales and cross‑functional areas.
Responsibilities- Utilize engineering principles in product design, development, analysis and release throughout the product life cycle.
- Act as key customer interface with an emphasis on technical problem solving; support existing customers on new product development projects.
- Communicate business and technical information between the customer and Sensata.
- Develop and maintain a technical understanding of Sensata’s products and competitor offerings.
- Key participant in failure analysis examinations and prepare Failure Analysis Reports.
- Ensure projects meet customer requirements and quality standards.
- Create design failure mode and effects analysis (DFMEA).
- Perform engineering analyses; review product specifications; use CAD to replicate performance and evaluate manufacturability.
- Help develop and refine standard product configurations that capitalize on company strengths.
- Provide onsite technical assistance to the sales team at trade shows and customer demonstrations.
- Negotiate technical specifications and respond to RFPs; assist in preparing quotations for standard and custom products.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with existing customers; understand their strategy and applications.
- Support technical problem resolution and deliver product training to distributors.
- Travel 35%–40% to customer sites for technical presentations and sales support.
- University degree (Bachelors) or equivalent relevant work experience.
- Team player capable of working in a fast‑paced environment with multiple competing tasks.
- Strong oral, written and presentation communication skills.
- Strong organizational, planning and time‑management skills.
- High ethical standards, integrity and accountability for achieving goals.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills with all levels of the organization, including suppliers and external customers.
- Knowledge of basic electrical circuits, microelectronic assembly, statistical methods, process control fundamentals and product test processes.
- Familiarity with manufacturing methods: welding, brazing, soldering, adhesive bonding, machining, stamping, molding, forming.
- Knowledge of core manufacturing processes (Calibration, Final Function Transfer, leak testing, welding/soldering, adhesive and gel dispensing).
- Familiarity with Insulation Monitoring Devices, Refrigerant Leak Detection Sensors, Circuit Breakers.
- Experience advising on technical problem resolution in customer interface meetings and technical support.
- Experience with customer interaction face‑to‑face, on calls and presentations.
