Overview
The City of Attleboro invites applications for Wastewater Treatment Plant Head Operator. Under the direction of the Superintendent of Wastewater, Assistant Superintendent of Wastewater, and Sr. Head Operator, the Head Operator is responsible for the inspection, maintenance and operation of the machinery and equipment used in a wastewater treatment facility.

Responsibilities- Directs, assigns, and supervises the activities of shift operators, shift attendants, maintenance personnel and laborers.
- Operates and maintains electrically driven pumps, auxiliary machinery, and equipment.
- Maintains, inspects, cleans, lubricates, overhauls and repairs machinery and equipment.
- Operates computerized control systems and local control panels, including taking readings from recording instruments and adjusting equipment as needed.
- Performs routine sampling and testing.
- Operates solids processing equipment such as chemical feed pumps, sludge pumps and filter press equipment.
- Removes filter cake to staging area.
- Maintains buildings and grounds in clean and orderly condition.
- Performs snow and ice program participation.
- May assist in the marking of sewer lines and other “Dig Safe” activities.
- Performs related work as required.
Requires a high school diploma and four or more years of experience in the operation of a wastewater treatment plant or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be able to walk and stand for most of the workday. Position requires bending, stooping and lifting up to 60 pounds. Exposure to chemicals, toxic substances and plants. Must be able to work any shift in a 24/7 operation of the plant.
Must have a Mass. Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators License Grade 6, Mass Wastewater Collection Systems Certification (Preferred) and Valid Driver’s License (CDL Preferred).
