Plasma Center Nurse – Medical Support Specialist
Job Description:
The Medical Support Specialist reports to the Plasma Center Manager and supports plasma center operations by determining donor eligibility, managing donor adverse events, reviewing laboratory test results, and notifying donors of unsuitable test results. The role is guided by the Center Manager, Assistant Manager, and Center Physician.
- Determine donor eligibility, including informed consent, AIDS education, medical history interview, physical examination, blood testing, and review of serological protein electrophoresis (SPE).
- Evaluate donor reactions and follow SOPs for medical emergencies, including development of Center Physician standing orders and transport to emergency care facilities.
- Refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs for unacceptable findings or medical/technical issues concerning donor safety and eligibility.
- Support Hepatitis B and seasonal flu vaccination programs for employees.
- Manage employee incidents and determine if further evaluation is required by occupational health/ER, following EHS guidance.
- Act as Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations related to pandemic threats.
- High school diploma or equivalent, or graduate level recognized educational nursing program with state requirements.
- Currently licensed or certified in the state where responsibilities will be assigned (LPN or LVN).
- Current CPR and AED certification.
- Fulfill state requirements for basic IV therapy.
- Successfully complete the FDA‑approved training requirements for Bio Life Medical Support Specialist.
- Two years in a clinical or hospital setting.
