Goodwill Store Associate may be trained on all non‑management aspects of store operations. Under general supervision of the Store Manager or manager‑in‑charge, the Retail Store Associate is responsible for assisting in overall store operations including receiving and processing donations from donors, completing sales transactions on the POS system, displaying items on and pulling items from the sales floor, and general maintenance to provide a safe, clean and welcoming environment for donors and shoppers.
Special RequirementsWill typically be required to work regular weekend (i.e. Saturday, Sunday), holiday and evening hours customary to the retail trade.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Store Operations- Sort, price and display quality merchandise for sale in the store. Meet quality and quantity production standards to maximize sales revenue.
- Properly discard unsellable merchandise to appropriate containers (Outlet, Salvage, Trash, etc.).
- Maximize used goods processing through proper application of Goodwill techniques, including sorting, preparing and pricing items for sale, and meeting or exceeding production goals on a consistent basis.
- Follow store rotation schedule by completing pulls at scheduled times in assigned areas.
- Ensure customer service is timely and courteous to all shoppers, donors and employees; available for telephone customer relations activities.
- Assist in maintaining sales floor appearance, cleanliness and shopping environment (e.g., floor care, fitting rooms, cash register, aisles, trash receptacles, lights, restrooms, glass showcases, window ledges, doors) and maintain an odor free environment.
- May be required to assist with general light maintenance on immediate grounds such as building exterior and parking lot (windows, doors, sidewalks, parking lot lights, dumpster area, landscape, stray shopping carts, store entry and signage).
- Assist shoppers on the sales floor in locating and selecting merchandise.
- Complete sales transactions on the POS system accurately and timely.
- Accept donations from donors by greeting them at their vehicles and assisting to carry donated items into the store; always offer a receipt for donated merchandise.
- Assist shoppers by carrying larger, heavier items to their vehicles after sales transactions as appropriate.
- Demonstrate good judgment at cash wrap by protecting Agency assets such as cash and jewelry.
- Assist in maintaining store and surrounding premises to keep clean and free of safety hazards and adhere to all safety, health and emergency procedures.
- Utilize designated staging area for “Z” racks; keep aisles, corridors and production areas free of clutter and unobstructed for emergency exit.
- Secure sharp objects such as knives; handle breakable objects carefully.
- Utilize required PPE for assigned tasks.
- Spread ice melt on sidewalks and pathways; shovel sidewalks, loading docks and donor area when needed.
- Report observations or suspicions of theft and other wrongdoing.
- Assist with proper loading/unloading of trucks, use of seals and documentation on intra‑office shipping memos for internal transfer of goods, per Agency procedures.
- Perform other related essential duties as required or assigned by supervisor.
- High school diploma or GED preferred; one to three months related experience or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Students under 18 may be hired part‑time but cannot operate hazardous equipment and must comply with CT DOL regulations regarding minors' hours.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; communicate with customers in one‑on‑one situations.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide using whole numbers, fractions, decimals.
