Hospital Security Officer

The hospital Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, staff, and hospital property. This role involves proactive patrol, incident response, access control, and collaboration with clinical staff and emergency responders. The Security Officer must exercise sound judgment, professionalism, and effective communication in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Education/Training:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Prior security, law enforcement, military, or hospital security experience preferred. Healthcare or behavioral health security experience strongly preferred.

Licenses/Certification: CPR/BLS certification required or must be obtained within 90 days of employment. MOAB or AVADE certification required or must be obtained within 30 days of employment. Active driver's license required

Qualifications and Skills:

A minimum of 2 years of experience in a hospital, healthcare, or behavioral health environment involving direct interaction with patients, visitors, or the public. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong observational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Ability to remain calm and professional in high-stress situations. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Customer service mindset with the ability to interact respectfully with diverse populations.

Ability to follow protocols, policies, and instructions accurately.

Essential Job Functions:

Maintain safety and security throughout hospital buildings, grounds, and parking areas. Conduct routine and random patrols to deter and detect unsafe or suspicious activity. Respond promptly to security incidents, alarms, emergencies, and requests for assistance. De-escalate disruptive situations involving patients, visitors, or staff using approved techniques. Assist with behavioral health or combative patient situations in accordance with hospital policy and training.

Control access to restricted areas and verify identification as required. Monitor security systems, including cameras, alarms, and access control systems. Provide assistance, directions, and customer service to patients and visitors in a professional manner. Accurately document incidents, observations, and actions taken in written reports. Support emergency response activities, including fire alarms, evacuations, medical emergencies, and disaster situations. Collaborate with hospital leadership, clinical staff, and local law enforcement as needed.

Comply with hospital policies, safety procedures, and regulatory requirements. Participate in required training, drills, and continuing education.
