Under the direct supervision Distribution Center Manager and the Distribution Copy/Logistics/Mail Center/Receiving Lead and within established Hospital and Departmental Policies and Procedures, the Materials Technician - Receiver is responsible for accurate and efficient receipt, inspection, documentation, and distribution of all inbound supplies, equipment, and materials.

This position ensures product integrity, verifies compliance with purchase orders and safety standards, and maintains accurate receiving and shipping documentation within the hospital’s supply chain management system. The Materials Technician also assists with inventory control, returns, and logistics coordination to support the hospital’s operational and clinical needs.

Education/Training
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
Licenses/Certification
  • OSHA Forklift Certification (required or must be obtained within 90 days of hire)
  • Valid driver’s license (if position includes inter-campus)
Required Qualifications and Skills
  • Minimum 2 years of prior receiving, warehouse, or materials handling experience, preferably in a healthcare or regulated industry setting.
  • Proficiency in barcoding/scanning systems and inventory management software.
  • Strong attention to detail, recordkeeping accuracy, and organizational skills.
  • Working knowledge of business math and basic computer applications (Microsoft Office, ERP systems).
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and handle heavy materials safely using proper techniques and equipment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with vendors, couriers, and hospital staff.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
  • Previous experience in a hospital distribution center or healthcare supply chain environment.
  • Experience operating forklifts or powered industrial trucks.
  • Familiarity with logistics, inventory control, and lean supply chain practices.
Essential Job Functions
  • Receive, inspect, and verify all incoming deliveries against purchase orders and packing slips to ensure accuracy and condition.
  • Document receipts in the hospital’s materials management or ERP system (e.g., Lawson, Workday, People Soft).
  • Safely unload and move shipments using appropriate material handling equipment (e.g., pallet jacks, forklifts).
  • Tag, label, and stage incoming items for delivery or storage within the Distribution Center.
  • Communicate discrepancies, damages, or delivery issues promptly to the Materials Analyst or Distribution Center Supervisor.
  • Support outbound shipping and returns processing, ensuring proper packaging, labeling, and carrier documentation.
  • Maintain accurate and organized records of receiving, shipping, and inventory transactions.
  • Adhere to hospital infection control, safety, and regulatory standards during all handling and transport activities.
  • Participate in cycle counts and physical inventory audits as assigned.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain, clinical, and support departments to ensure timely delivery of supplies and materials.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient Distribution Center environment.
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned to support Supply Chain operations.
