Overview
Systems Test Engineer Associate shall be responsible for the evaluation of software or hardware systems that meet requirements and specifications through various testing methods. Test Engineers shall manage and execute test programs, analyze and interpret results, and communicate findings.
Compensation & BenefitsCompetitive compensation package of minimum $72,800 - $95,680

- Decompose system requirements and assist in designing test plans and verification strategies that give Waymo the necessary evidence to release the product / service.
- Improve the quality and coverage of system verification.
- Build new processes that improve organization, traceability and clarity.
- Develop new tools that improve the repeatability, efficiency or completeness of testing.
- Follow test procedures and execute specific test cases to verify the functionality of a system.
- Identify and document issues or defects in the system for engineers to address.
- Identify missing or untestable requirements, gaps in design and incomplete implementation.
- Maintain accurate records of test results, test scripts, and defect reports.
- Improve processes that increase operational efficiency of test execution.
- Debug and resolve test‑related failures; contribute to root cause analysis of system failures.
- Prepare the necessary environment for testing, which may include hardware, software, and data.
- Analyze and interpret results.
- Communicate results and test status using dashboards and other visualizations within existing toolsets.
- Provide technical guidance to the test team comprised of Test Conductors, Vehicle Operators, Test Assistants.
- Assist the execution of vehicle and/or functional and performance test work streams (project priorities, tasks and coordinate activities, deliverables, schedules, and work to support staff when necessary/appropriate).
- Apply Waymo policies, procedures, standards, and code of conduct throughout—taking personal responsibility for safety during testing.
- Support other structured testing as needed.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- Enrolled in a Bachelor’s Degree program in engineering or related technical field (ME, EE, CS, Robotics, Controls, Aerospace).
- Test scripting understanding/execution for in-vehicle test automation (C/C++, Python, Matlab/Simulink).
- Ability to interact with functional and technical counterparts to ensure system tests meet all required specifications.
- Excellent communication and project management skills.
- In-depth knowledge of vehicle systems and subsystems.
- Ability to spend a full day outside in variable weather conditions.
- Flexibility with work hours during busy test periods (including weekend and AM or PM shifts).
- Concise and effective verbal and written communication.
- Operational skills and knowledge of systems engineering processes.
- Organized, detail oriented and a fast learner.
- Ability to work independently in ambiguous conditions.
- Thriving in a fast‑paced environment.
- Required to talk, listen, and hear.
- Frequently required to use repetitive hand motion, hands to fingers, handle or feel, and to sit, stand, walk, reach, bend, regularly push, pull and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Occasionally climb stairs and/or ladders.
- Must use close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Most work is accomplished outdoors.
- All employees must satisfactorily complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check. Safety Sensitive Positions will also be subject to a physical screening.

- Continual background checks are performed as permitted by state law.
- Acceptable driving record necessary for duties that involve driving.
