Position: Test Engineer [Internship]

Overview:
Intern Systems Test Engineer assists in verifying that software or hardware systems meet requirements and specifications through various testing methods. Intern Test Engineers manage and execute test programs, analyze and interpret results, and communicate findings. This role provides hands‑on experience in all aspects of system testing during the internship.

Compensation

Competitive compensation package of $26.00 per hour.

Key Responsibilities
  • Decompose system requirements and assist in designing test plans and verification strategies that provide evidence for product release.
  • Improve the quality and coverage of system verification.
  • Follow test procedures and execute specific test cases to verify functionality.
  • Identify issues or defects and document them clearly for engineers to address.
  • Identify missing or untestable requirements, gaps in design, and incomplete implementation.
  • Maintain accurate records of test results, test scripts, and defect reports.
  • Improve processes that increase the operational efficiency of test execution.
  • Debug and resolve test‑related failures and contribute to root‑cause analysis.
  • Prepare the necessary environment for testing, including hardware, software, and data.
  • Analyze and interpret results.
  • Communicate results and test status. Use dashboards and visualizations to help stakeholders interpret test results.
  • Provide technical guidance to the test team comprising Test Conductors, Vehicle Operators, and Test Assistants.
  • Assist in the execution of vehicle and/or functional and performance test work streams, coordinating tasks, deliverables, schedules, and supporting staff as needed.
  • Apply company policies, procedures, standards, and code of conduct, including personal responsibility for safety.
  • Support other structured testing as needed.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.
Required

Education and Experience
  • Enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in engineering or a related technical field (e.g., Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Science, Robotics, Controls, Aerospace).
  • Participated in projects that applied system engineering principles such as defining requirements and conducting formal verification and validation.
  • Knowledge of test scripting and execution for in‑vehicle automation (C/C++, Python, MATLAB/Simulink).
  • Ability to interact with functional and technical counterparts to ensure system tests meet all required specifications.
  • Excellent communication and project‑management skills.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
  • In‑depth knowledge of vehicle systems and subsystems.
  • Ability to spend a full day outdoors in variable weather conditions.
  • Flexibility with work hours during busy test periods, including weekend and shift work.
  • Concise and effective communication, both verbal and written.
  • Operational skills and knowledge of systems engineering processes.
  • Organized, detail‑oriented, and a fast learner.
  • Capability to work independently in ambiguous conditions.
  • Thrives in a fast‑paced environment.
Physical Requirements
  • Required to talk, listen, and hear.
  • Frequently required to use repetitive hand motion, hand‑to‑finger manipulation, handling or feeling objects, and to sit, stand, walk, reach, bend, and push, pull, or lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasionally climb stairs and/or ladders.
  • Must have adequate close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Most work is accomplished outdoors.
