Hire Art is helping an on-demand, autonomous ride-hailing company hire an engineering-focused Vehicle Technician to support the readiness and performance of its fully autonomous fleet.
In this role, you’ll perform maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and fleet reworks while supporting daily workshop operations. You’ll play a critical role in ensuring vehicles are safe, reliable, and ready for testing and deployment.
The ideal candidate is hands‑on, detail‑oriented, and comfortable working at the intersection of mechanical work and engineering support.
As a Vehicle Technician- Configure, set up, maintain, diagnose, and sign off on vehicles for safe on‑road operation.
- Partner with the shop foreman to ensure vehicles are in a ready state for demonstrations and testing.
- Perform diagnostics and elevate complex issues to engineering teams as needed.
- Coordinate and drive repair activities from diagnosis through resolution.
- Develop diagnostic test plans to support troubleshooting and validation efforts.
- Maintain accurate service records and document detailed field quality reports.
- Ensure shop facilities, tools, and work spaces are organized, clean, and fully operational.
- Support parts inventory management, including tracking, organization, and location control.
- Deliver a high‑quality service experience for internal teams and business partners.
- Travel locally as needed to support vehicle maintenance, testing, and operations.
- 2+ years of automotive technician experience
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Reliable, self‑motivated, and able to take initiative
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast‑paced environment
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative, team‑oriented mindset
- Ability to pass a background check, MVR check, and drug screening
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand or sit for extended periods (8+ hours)
- Ability to obtain and maintain company‑provided forklift and/or gantry operator certification (Cal/OSHA compliant)
- Must wear safety boots meeting ASTM F2412/F2413 standards
- Experience in an automotive engineering or research lab environment (e.g., dyno, battery testing)
- Familiarity with CAN systems, wiring diagrams, and basic soldering
- Experience towing car haulers or large trailers for vehicle transport
- Technical trade school certification or associate degree in automotive repair
- Ability to travel locally and occasionally nationally

This is a full‑time, ongoing contract position staffed via Hire Art. It will be onsite and available to candidates who are local to the Atwater, CA area.
