Job Type: Full‑time

We work onsite 4+ days a week, with our team based in Auburn Hills, Michigan, and Juneau, Wisconsin. Our team of 700+ passionate pet people thrives on collaboration, innovation, and the occasional office cameo from a four‑legged friend.

What You’ll Do

The Senior Accountant will play a key role in supporting Whisker's accounting and finance functions by ensuring timely, accurate, and reliable financial reporting. Working closely with the Controller and cross‑functional business partners, this position will be responsible for maintaining the integrity of the general ledger, preparing account reconciliations and journal entries, supporting and optimizing the month‑end close process, and helping ensure a clean balance sheet with no surprises.

This role is ideal for a hands‑on accounting professional who enjoys solving problems, improving processes, and contributing to a fast‑paced, high‑growth environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepares and posts journal entries accurately and timely as part of the monthly financial close process.
  • Prepares and maintains balance sheet account reconciliations, investigating and resolving reconciling items promptly.
  • Assists with the monthly, quarterly, and year‑end close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Performs variance analysis and investigates unusual fluctuations in financial results.
  • Prepares schedules and supporting documentation for internal and external financial reporting.
  • Supports annual financial statement audits and other audits by preparing audit schedules and responding to auditor requests.
  • Assists with maintaining the general ledger and ensuring transactions are recorded in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Assists with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis as needed.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve accounting processes, internal controls, and reporting efficiency.
  • Assists with ERP system improvements and other finance‑related projects.
  • Maintains compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and applicable regulations.
  • Performs other accounting and finance responsibilities as assigned.
What You’ll Bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
  • At least 4 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting.
  • Experience preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting month‑end close.
  • Strong understanding of balance sheet and income statement relationships.
  • Demonstrated experience owning balance sheet reconciliations and resolving accounting procedures through to completion.
  • Comfortable working in the details while continually looking for opportunities to improve processes.
  • Experience working with ERP systems and accounting software.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • High degree of initiative with a willingness to roll up your sleeves and work in the details.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across departments.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive financial information.
  • Comfortable working in a fast‑paced environment with changing priorities.
  • Comfortable with office pets (cats and dogs).
Not Required but Nice to Have
  • CPA designation or active progress toward obtaining a CPA.
  • Master’s degree in Accounting or related field.
  • Public accounting experience.
  • Manufacturing experience.
  • Experience with SAP Business One or similar ERP systems.
