Position:
Project Engineer
Location:
Auburn Hills, MI
Assist the project team with scheduling, project buyout, estimating, document control, and management of self‑perform teams and subcontractors in the Industrial and Heavy Commercial Markets. Projects range from $25,000 to $10,000,000 USD and may involve travel.
Responsibilities- Demonstrate commitment to the company’s safety culture and adhere to the safety manual.
- Ensure compliance with all standard operating procedures (ISO) for estimating, purchasing, and project control.
- Collaborate with client project teams, senior project managers, project managers, site safety professionals, trade subcontractors, local authorities, and designers to achieve project success.
- Maintain and update document controls (pre‑construction documents, submittals, RFIs/DCRs, punch lists, closeout materials).
- Support project scheduling using Microsoft Project or Primavera.
- Assist with project buyout and startup activities.
- Prepare letters of intent, purchase orders, and master sub‑agreements.
- Manage the project submittal process, including drafting submittal logs, processing vendor and subcontractor submittals, and maintaining the log throughout the project.
- Verify shop drawings and communicate submittal status to the Project Manager and team.
- Contribute to estimating efforts, including budgets, bulletins, and change request/field order quotations.
- Assist with coordinating self‑perform and subcontractor scopes with field supervision.
- Support job cost tracking and management.
- Participate in project closeout activities.
- Maintain positive and open relationships with customers.
- Travel may be required.
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field.
- 1–3 years related experience and/or internship(s) with a General Contracting/Construction Management organization, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, FTP sites, and document control programs.
- Experience with Sage 300, Procore, or Prolog is preferred.
- Strong communication, planning, organizational, and teamwork skills.
- Fast‑paced, busy, and occasionally noisy environment.
- May involve managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- May require outdoor work with exposure to various weather conditions.
- Occasional work in high or precarious places, near fumes or airborne particles, or handling toxic chemicals.
- Risk of electrical shock and vibration may occur.
- Frequent interruptions to address team members’ needs and vendor requests.
- Frequent travel by motor vehicle may be required.
- Extended hours on construction sites may necessitate physical stamina for navigating the premises.
- Effective and professional communication with supervisors, employees, and others, both individually and in a team setting, is essential.
- Strict adherence to safety protocols and the ability to follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment guidelines, and company policies, is required to perform work safely and effectively.
