Safety Manager - Commercial Overview Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
  • Provide training and guidance to employees and contractors on safety protocols and best practices.
  • Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses, and prepare detailed reports with recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with project managers and site supervisors to ensure safety measures are integrated into all phases of construction projects.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety-related activities, including training sessions, inspections, and incident reports.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies and ensure compliance with all applicable safety standards.
  • Promote a culture of safety awareness and accountability across the organization.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Construction Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Proven experience in a safety management role, preferably within the commercial construction industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations and other relevant safety standards.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage diverse teams.
  • Certification in safety management (e.g., CSP, CHST, or equivalent) is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in using safety management software and tools.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
Day-to-Day
  • Conduct daily site visits to monitor safety compliance and address any immediate concerns.
  • Lead toolbox talks and safety meetings to reinforce safety protocols and address site-specific risks.
  • Review and approve safety plans for ongoing and upcoming projects.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors to ensure alignment with safety standards and expectations.
  • Respond promptly to safety incidents, providing on-site support and guidance as needed.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and regulatory changes to ensure continuous improvement of safety practices.
