Position:
Multi Tiered System Support (MTSS) Para educator

Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree preferred
  • ETS Parapro Assessment required
  • Relate to children and adults in a positive manner
  • Training or coursework in the area of early childhood, education or child development
  • Successful experience working with groups of children
  • Skills to support the school district's curriculum and instructional approaches
  • Basic computer skills

Job Goal:
Support students academically, socially, and emotionally. (Position will focus primarily on K/1 students)

Reports to:

Building Principal

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support and reinforce classroom teacher's instructional plan in order for the student to reach their highest potential, attain grade level proficiency, and improve achievement.
  • Collaborate with the teacher in order to reinforce and/or support the students in all Core Curriculum areas.
  • Instructional support may be provided to students within the classroom or during small group sessions outside of the classroom.
  • Assist with the completion of student needs assessments.
  • Maintain confidentiality of school related information.
  • Demonstrates understanding of students' needs, and interacts appropriately with students, parents, and other employees.
  • Follows instructions of teaching staff and reinforces program philosophy and consistency in classroom procedures.
  • Demonstrates initiative and creativity with individual children and their program implementations; follows through with prescribed reading support programs.
  • Keeps records, maintains instructional materials and supplies, and procures necessary materials, as required.
  • Assists with the development of instructional materials.
  • Initiates actions which are required without specific direction from the teacher.
  • Maintains composure under stressful conditions.
  • Work with building staff to develop a student service schedule.
  • Assist in the selection of students into the Support Reading/Title I program through the direction of the classroom teacher, District Literacy Coordinator, principal and counselor. (As applicable)
  • Prepare promotional materials to encourage and motivate students.
  • Provide a neat and attractive work environment to promote an atmosphere conducive to positive learning.
  • Assist students in learning to work independently by setting priorities and planning for the use of their time.
  • Maintain an inventory of all instructional materials used in the Title I/Support Reading program. (As applicable)
  • Assist in the administration of the NWEA, MKEO, and other local and state assessments under the direction of a certified staff member.
  • Recess and lunchroom support
  • Assist in the training of new paraprofessionals.
  • Assist with parent involvement activities.
  • Participate in professional development activities within and outside of the district.
  • Other duties as assigned.
