Whereand How You’ll Work
Based out of our Auburn Hills, MI office, the Design Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and supporting the release of engineered components, assemblies, and manufacturing solutions across Gemini Group’s diverse business units. You’ll work closely with product development, manufacturing, commercial teams, and external customers to bring ideas from concept to production with precision, creativity, and technical excellence.
What You’ll Do (Your Impact)- Create and develop 3D CAD models and assemblies of components
- Collaborate directly with customers to support product development for acquisition targets, new awarded business and engineering design changes
- Translate customer requirements, vehicle program data, and internal standards into manufacturable, cost‑effective product designs
- Collaborate onsite with Gemini manufacturing facilities and suppliers to support project needs and request for quotes
- Participate in design reviews and technical discussions with customers
- Support prototype builds, testing activities, and iterative design improvements
- Evaluate materials, processes, and production methods to optimize performance, durability, and manufacturability
- Maintain and update engineering documentation, BOMs, revision histories, and release packages for customers and suppliers
- Work with manufacturing teams to troubleshoot issues, validate design intent, and ensure smooth production launches
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on standardization, cost reduction, and efficiency
- Stay informed on industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitive products to guide innovation and design strategy
- 4+ years of experience in mechanical or product design within automotive, industrial, or related manufacturing environments
- A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or related field
- Strong proficiency in CATIA or similar CAD platforms
- Experience designing plastic components, including injection molding, extrusions, blow molding, trim and assemblies —automotive experience expected
- Solid understanding of DFM principles, GD&T, tolerance stack‑ups and manufacturing processes
- Ability to interpret customer specifications and engineering standards
- Strong analytical, creative problem‑solving, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast‑paced, hands‑on environment
- Organized to maintain engineering documentation
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
