SL Michigan is seeking a Hardware Engineer to support the design, development, testing, and validation of automotive electrical and electronic components. This role is responsible for delivering high-quality hardware solutions that meet customer requirements, program timing, and production standards. The Hardware Engineer will also support issue resolution during both product development and mass production phases.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Design and develop electrical circuits for LED Assembly Modules (LAM) and LED Driver Modules (LDM) in accordance with system and customer requirements
- Perform electrical simulations and Worst-Case Circuit Analysis to ensure design robustness and reliability
- Analyze customer requirements and create hardware specifications and supporting technical documentation
- Provide technical input to support hardware cost estimation during quoting and program planning phases
- Prepare and lead Technical Design Reviews, including schematic and PCB layout reviews
- Troubleshoot design and manufacturing issues and implement corrective hardware design changes
- Develop and execute complex hardware test plans, cases, and validation scenarios
- Support ADVP&R processes, including test plan development and review of validation results
- Investigate and resolve DV/PV testing issues and modify circuit designs as required
- Develop Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and support Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) activities
- Contribute to Value Analysis / Value Engineering (VAVE) initiatives by identifying cost reduction opportunities
- Review supplier hardware designs, including schematics and PCB layouts, to ensure compliance with technical and quality standards
- Provide technical guidance to suppliers to ensure designs meet customer and internal requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related engineering discipline
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in hardware architecture design and integrated system development
- Minimum of 2 years of experience supporting the launch of automotive electrical/electronic products into production
- Experience with LED Driver Modules (LDM) and LED Assembly Modules (LAM) strongly preferred
- Experience working directly with automotive OEM customers such as GM, Ford, Hyundai, or similar
- Experience with Cadence / Allegro schematic capture tools preferred
- Experience using simulation tools such as Cadence SI, P-Spice, or equivalent
- Knowledge of PCB artwork and layout review
- Understanding of embedded hardware systems and electronic component integration
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced automotive environment
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Ability to work with global teams, suppliers, and customers
