Geofabrica Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer with strong experience in Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) to contribute to the design, development, and production transition of UAV systems. This role requires hands‑on design and rapid prototyping expertise, collaboration with multi‑disciplinary teams, and a focus on translating innovative concepts into manufacturable, cost‑effective, and high‑volume UAV systems

Relocation assistance is not provided for this on‑site position based in Auburn Hills, Michigan. This position will support a U.S. Department of Defense program and will require proof of U.S. Citizenship to be eligible for employment.
Key Responsibilities- Develop structural, mechanical, and airframe components for UAVs using CAD tools (Solid Works, Autodesk Fusion 360, or equivalent).
- Apply DFMA principles to support medium to large quantity production.
- Conduct tolerance analysis, materials selection, and structural optimization.
- Optimize new and existing components for cost effective manufacturing.
- Collaborate with aerodynamics, avionics, propulsion, and manufacturing team members during development.
- Generate and maintain Technical Data Packages (TDPs), drawings, and specifications in compliance with aerospace/defense standards.
- Support prototyping, testing, and evaluation of UAV structures and mechanical systems.
- Assist in design improvements based on test data and field feedback.
- Interface with Tier 1/Tier 2 suppliers on manufacturability, tolerance control, and production methods.
- Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and configuration control activities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- 3+ years of experience in mechanical design with focus on Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA).
- Proficiency with CAD software (Solid Works, NX, or equivalent).
- Strong understanding of materials, manufacturing processes (composites, machining, additive, injection molding), and tolerancing.
- U.S. Citizenship (required for defense‑related projects).
- Experience designing UAVs, drones, or aerospace platforms (Group 2–3 UAVs strongly preferred).
- Familiarity with MIL-STD mechanical/environmental requirements and aerospace quality standards.
- Hands‑on prototyping and testing experience.
- Knowledge of additive manufacturing and advanced lightweight structures.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to design for scale and repeatability in manufacturing.
- Excellent technical communication skills, including design documentation and cross‑functional collaboration.
- Team‑oriented, adaptable, and capable of working in a fast‑paced dual‑use (commercial + defense) environment.
