Job SummaryThe New Manager - Joining Engineering reports to the Technical Director and manages a team of Corporate Joining Engineers. This team is responsible to support the development, design, build and implementation of all joining processes required for assembly systems within the Metallics Business Unit.
RequiredEducation and Experience
- Post‑Secondary Education (Community College or Undergraduate Degree) in one of the following with emphasis on joining technologies:
- Engineering
- Manufacturing (Automation and Tooling)
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in joining/manufacturing/automation and tooling and program management experience
- Extensive experience in RSW, GMAW, RPW, DAW, LBW, HLAW, FDS, SPR, FSW, Adhesive and Clinch joining technologies on Aluminum, Steel, Galvanized Coated Steel, HSLA, Boron, Hot Stamp and GEN III materials.
- Strong communicator in the English language, both written and oral
- Excellent organizational skills, and attention to detail
- Strong time management skills
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- Fluent in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
- Extensive knowledge of CAD software (AutoCAD, Solidworks, Catia, UG)
- Lead Corporate Joining Engineering group and provide technical oversight for all engineering work
- Ensure assembly engineering discipline follows corporate level and customer joining engineering standards
- Review project specifications for welding process, base metals, filler metals, heat treatment, and evaluation requirements.
- Collaborate with engineering and design teams to develop welding solutions.
- Develop and implement engineering strategies and processes to improve efficiency and productivity.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to team members to ensure continuous improvement.
- Provide leadership, mentorship and performance management for Joining Engineers.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members to foster growth and development.
- Create and maintain yearly Work Plans for Joining Engineers.
- Schedule and oversee the timely completion of engineering projects.
- Stay up‑to‑date with industry trends and advancements in welding/joining technology to drive innovation and competitive advantage.
- Lead, support, develop budgets and assign tasks for R&D initiatives.
- Communicate and collaborate with other functional managers.
- Abide by all Company policies including, but not limited to, Health and Safety, Quality and Environmental Systems, Human Resources policies, and the Martinrea Employee Handbook
- 50% Office environment, 50% Vendor Plant floor (PPE required)
- Must work in accordance with Health and Safety regulations, Company and plant rules, policies and procedures
- Must use or wear Personal Protective Equipment and certain clothing as required by the Company
