What you will do
Under general direction, manage the capacity and staffing of the project development teams, including scheduling, staffing, project development cost and planning, pursuit costs, and project cost and technical reviews.
Review and approve all project development plans as developed by Development engineers / Development managers on the Development teams.
Provide direct leadership and oversight of large project development and development plans / budgets for Sustainable Infrastructure (SI) Canada. Lead professional development, adherence to the SI business operating system (BOS), and manage & mentor the development and project engineers.
Establish team objectives and manage team efforts to achieve assigned productivity. Assist development managers to enable effective planning, scheduling, and controlling of project development and sales support activities.
Hire, retain, performance‑manage, and plan career development of direct reports. Prepare and deliver clear performance expectations, performance reviews, and development plans for direct reports.
Manage and execute project pursuits and development, ensuring the project development professionals have operational control and accountability for planned project pursuits and developments.
Maintain high customer satisfaction for projects during development and transition to construction phase.
Work collaboratively with Development managers to determine capacity and capability needs, and assist the General Manager in preparing annual financial operating plans and monthly financial reporting.
Direct the efforts of the project development teams to provide specific functional and technical expertise, including presentation assistance, estimating, technical and financial analysis, and other related tasks.
Implement JCI’s standardized tools and processes, establish, track, and report performance metrics, and serve as an active member of the Sustainable Infrastructure Area leadership team.
How you will do itWith the General Manager, establish the project development engineering and project engineering resource plan for staffing levels and take action to achieve that plan. Assist direct managers in hiring, retaining, performance managing and career development of the engineering team members.
Ensure adherence to Company policies, procedures, and strategic initiatives regarding human resource management. Track changing trends in the marketplace and adjust organization accordingly.
Support the development and delivery teams with engineering resources, provide manpower forecasts, and plan for support of Development Teams’ project development forelog.
Direct the team to provide functional and technical expertise, including presentation assistance, estimating, technical and financial analysis, and support detailed development of projects.
Validate assumptions during solution design, build detailed cost estimates and scopes of work for assigned projects, assist in preparing proposals, and maintain high technical competence in multiple functional areas.
Qualifications and Experience- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field (MBA or relevant graduate degree desirable).
- Ten or more years of experience in engineering building‑related systems or services.
- Registered Professional Engineer, Masters in Business Administration, or advanced engineering degree highly recommended.
- Proven leadership skills and experience managing a technical team with multi‑project management capabilities.
- Strong process orientation, development skills, and ability to motivate subordinates.
- Excellent planning, organization, recruiting, and people‑development skills.
- Experience with facility operations and cost accounting.
- Strong business analysis, project management, formal report‑writing and oral and written communication skills.
- Solid working knowledge of common computer applications (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Project, etc.).
- Travel approximately 30%, primarily within Canada and occasionally to the USA.
- Must be qualified to maintain Canadian Federal Secret level security clearance, which requires being born in Canada or having residency in Canada for over 10 years.
HIRING SALARY RANGE: $125,500 - $188,700 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data). This position includes a competitive benefits package.
