Project Engineer

Job Responsibilities- Support the design, implementation, and calibration of On‑Board Diagnostics (OBD) strategies in accordance with evolving system architectures, technology developments, and emissions regulatory requirements.
- Assist in evaluating OBD monitoring boundaries and diagnostic concepts to help ensure compliance with applicable regulatory standards and project requirements.
- Participate in OBD development activities, including requirements analysis, diagnostic algorithm development, calibration, validation, testing, and certification support.
- Utilize engineering tools and programming languages such as Python to develop analysis scripts, automate routine tasks, and support virtual modeling and calibration activities.
- Analyze and process large datasets using advanced data analysis techniques to identify trends, investigate issues, and support engineering decision‑making.
- Develop required BPU level failures for smart sensors and actuators using CAN based manipulation techniques.
- Support the planning and execution of engine, aftertreatment, and powertrain testing activities on dynamo meters and vehicle platforms for gasoline and diesel applications.
- Assist with the installation, commissioning, and operation of powertrain test setups, including conventional internal combustion engine and hybrid‑electric configurations.
- Analyze test results to assess system performance against project objectives and regulatory requirements.
- Document test findings and prepare technical reports and presentations for internal and customer reviews.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including systems, software, calibration, testing, and certification engineers to support the successful delivery of OBD development projects.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical/automotive engineering, Master's preferred
- 1 to 5 years of experience in OBD calibration development and/or certification testing
- Strong fundamentals in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and internal combustion engines
- Basic level regulatory understanding – CARB, EU‑OBD, EPA‑OBD, WWH‑OBD
- Moderate experience in calibration and implementation of OBD strategies meeting CARB regulation
- Understanding of fault handling and communication
- Experience in developing OBD design requirements for software development
- Know‑hows to leverage advanced toolchain (such as Python) capabilities to develop virtual models/ calibrations and process large sets of data
- Experience in OBD data preparation for certification
- Extensive experience in OBD testing for certification, data consolidation and presentation preparation
- Experience in logic diagram development and concept preparation
- Strong knowledge of CI and SI combustion processes
- Strong knowledge of diesel aftertreatment systems
- Experience using commercially available calibration and development tools (i.e., ETAS INCA, ATI Vision, Vector CANape/CANalyzer, Matlab/Simulink)
- Professional communication skills (oral and written English)
- Must be a motivated team player to perform in fast paced development environment
- Knowledge of hybrid powertrain systems
- Exposure to US emission regulations and certification test procedures
- Understanding of US OBD regulations, SAE J1939, J1979 standards
- Exposure to base engine and aftertreatment system controls
- Hands‑on experience with engine hardware – engine assembly or rebuilding and troubleshooting
- US citizen or Permanent Residence a plus
