The Safety Performance Engineer is responsible for leading the safety development activities for their assigned vehicle programs to ensure all identified safety functional objectives are achieved. They support impact script development, identify design enablers, and execute component and full vehicle test plans. The Safety Performance Engineer must possess a strong technical acumen, exceptional communication and organizational skills, and will travel to Chelsea Proving Grounds as required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safety development, supporting safety target setting and vehicle level test plan execution; specifically, for the vehicle crash regulatory and third‑party ratings.
  • Support the vehicle integration and validation process by owning safety performance, leading the attribute teams, supporting safety tech clubs and executing vehicle program requests.
  • Influence the designs and investigate vehicle issues to determine the root cause, issue the appropriate documentation for issue resolution, and lead the team when an issue crosses multiple vehicle disciplines.
  • Be responsible for physical and component testing, planning, vehicle build, pre‑test preparation and execution from concept through launch, including interacting with the CAE team for virtual validation assessments.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited or equivalent program.
  • Three years of vehicle development experience and one year of safety development.
  • Ability to guide vehicle design through virtual analysis assessments and physical testing.
  • Knowledge of domestic and global vehicle regulatory and 3rd party requirements.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross‑functional teams (Durability, Safety, NVH, Aero) on root cause and issue resolution.
  • Demonstrates strategic thinking, strong leadership, and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to summarize and present results and recommendations in an organized manner.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Good presentation skills, problem solving ability.
  • Good knowledge of vehicle structures.
  • Good knowledge of fundamental physics and structural engineering principles.
  • Excellent organizational, communication and teamwork skills.
  • Previous laboratory, design release, CAE and hands‑on crash worthiness expertise is a plus.
  • Knowledge of CATIA/NX/TC, Hypergraph, data/film analysis, and advanced simulation techniques.

The pay range that the employer in good faith reasonably expects to pay for this position is $19.58/hour - $30.59/hour. Our benefits include medical, dental, vision and retirement benefits.
